Job description

About Us:
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Cincinnati is a network of neighbors, inspired by Gospel values, working to build a more just world by providing compassionate service to those in need. For over 150 years, we have served the Cincinnati community through a network of dedicated staff and volunteers, offering essential services such as food, clothing, furniture, medication, and homelessness prevention. In addition, we advocate for systemic change to address the root causes of poverty.
Purpose:
Our Catino Choice Food Pantry serves an average of 2,000 families each month, providing neighbors with the ability to select their own food and personal care items. As a Pantry Operations Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Food Pantry Manager to support all aspects of pantry operations. This includes acting as a direct service pantry guide, assisting with back-of-house processing, and engaging with live Teaching Kitchen programming. This is a 15-week summer internship.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist neighbors visiting our Outreach Center, particularly in the Choice Food Pantry, by guiding them through the pantry and supporting them with their food selection.
  • Serve as a pantry guide, helping neighbors with their food selection and transporting items to their mode of transportation.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of Teaching Kitchen programming.
  • Enter data into our case management system to track food distribution and other services.
  • Assist in sorting in-kind donations such as food, clothing, and toys.
  • Stock shelves in the food pantry, ensure pantry cleanliness, and help close the pantry at the end of the day.
  • Provide general support to the Outreach Center's direct services staff as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the operations of the Outreach Center and the overall mission of St. Vincent de Paul - Cincinnati.

Qualifications:
  • High School degree or GED.
  • Must be enrolled in a Post High School continuing education program in the Fall of 2026. (A degree program in a Human Services related field is preferred.)
  • A strong desire to serve neighbors in need, both through direct service and support work.
  • Commitment to excellence in customer service and serving those in need with compassion.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Must be able to stand the entire shift and be able to life up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Basic computer skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Must be well-organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
