Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking an experienced Dimension Control Technician 3 to support the Tooling Department in Palmdale, California. This position is responsible for the layout, fabrication, assembly, alignment, and inspection of complex aerospace tooling, fixtures, jigs, tool masters, and master gauges used in aircraft manufacturing operations.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in precision measurement, tooling fabrication, blueprint interpretation, optical tooling equipment, and dimensional verification while working to exacting aerospace tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

• Lay out, fabricate, and assemble standard and non-standard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges, and related tooling.
• Perform dimensional layout activities involving compound angles, complex contours, and multiple reference planes.
• Establish and coordinate tooling holes, reference points, and assembly locations to exact aerospace tolerances.
• Interpret engineering drawings, tooling designs, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Plan work assignments and determine fabrication methods, tooling requirements, and sequence of operations.
• Set up and operate optical tooling and precision measurement equipment to verify alignment, fit, and assembly accuracy.
• Develop and design holding devices, fixture details, and tooling solutions to support manufacturing operations.
• Prepare operational sequences, shop drawings, and fabrication instructions for production teams.
• Perform dimensional inspections and validate tooling accuracy throughout fabrication and assembly processes.
• Monitor and verify quality using statistical process control methods and established inspection procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering, tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional and assembly issues.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards, safety requirements, and manufacturing specifications.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in dimension control, tooling fabrication, jig and fixture assembly, precision measurement, machining, or aerospace manufacturing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and tooling specifications.
• Experience working with complex layouts, tooling assemblies, and precision tolerances.
• Strong understanding of dimensional inspection methods and measurement techniques.
• Ability to independently plan, coordinate, and execute tooling fabrication projects.
• Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Optical tooling and alignment equipment experience.
• Experience with tool masters, master gauges, and complex fixture assemblies.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• Experience with laser trackers, theodolites, transit equipment, or similar precision measurement systems.
• Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience.
• Aircraft tooling and assembly support experience.

Additional Information

This position is intended to be contract-to-hire. While conversion to a direct Northrop Grumman employee is anticipated, it is not guaranteed and will be based on performance and business requirements.

Per Diem will be paid in accordance with GSA rates for the Palmdale, California location and managed through Concur.
