The opportunity
The Volunteer and Community Partnerships Manager provides strategic leadership for Project Access' volunteer engagement program, corporate volunteer partnerships, internships, and community engagement initiatives. The position builds on an established, multi-state volunteer and internship infrastructure and advances the organization's mission to foster community engagement, support operational needs, and create value across teams and programs.
What you'll do
  • Maintain, formalize and scale a comprehensive volunteer engagement strategy.
  • Recruit, screen, onboard, train, and engage volunteers while providing oversight for corporate volunteer experiences and partnering with site teams to support intern engagement, supervision, and academic requirements.
  • Maintain and expand relationships with corporations, civic organizations, universities, and faith-based communities to expand volunteer participation.
  • Coordinate volunteer support for fundraising events, including signature events such as golf and pickleball tournaments.
  • Continue building out the Adopt-a-Resource Center volunteer initiative.
  • Formalize and expand the current internship and volunteer relationships with corporates, colleges and universities.
  • Maintain and create volunteer policies, procedures, training materials, and risk-management practices.
  • Track volunteer participation, hours, retention, satisfaction, and economic impact using the organization's tools.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly performance dashboards.
  • Partner with Development staff to cultivate volunteers into donors, ambassadors, sponsors, and committee members.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to highlight volunteer stories and community impact.
  • Support board committees and community advisory groups as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3+ years of progressively responsible volunteer management, nonprofit leadership, community engagement, or related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and lead volunteers.
  • Experience working with CRM systems (Bloomerang preferred).
  • Strong project management, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • This plan assumes a handoff from the outgoing volunteer manager, including documented processes, warm introductions to existing corporate and university contacts, and CRM/data continuity
  • First 30 Days: Complete handoff with outgoing volunteer manager and assess current program, meet stakeholders, review systems, establish priorities.
  • Days 31-60: Continue supporting established internship programs and ongoing recruitment, identify improvements in onboarding/training, maintain dashboard reporting, continue corporate outreach.
  • Days 61-90: Identify new internship programs to establish, Adopt-a-Resource Center initiative to expand, update annual volunteer calendar, maintain current KPI dashboard.

  • Work location: Hybrid near corporate office in Orange, CA
  • Work schedule: This is a full-time, exempt position with a work schedule of Monday through Friday and may include evenings and occasional weekends as needed.
  • Reports to: VP of Development
  • Travel: 25% to attend conferences and events supporting Fund Development department's efforts Annual compensation: $71,000-$73,000
