POSITION 27A43 TITLE:ย  VOLUNTEER Assistant Football Coach (26-27)

LOCATION: ย Cameron High School

EMPLOYMENT TERM:ย ย ย  2026-2027 School year, season varies including flex days
BID PERIOD:ย August 27 - September 2, 2026, 4 pm.ย 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of the assigned athletic program, including practices, contests, conditioning activities, team meetings, and related team events.
  2. Promote student safety, welfare, andย appropriate conductย while students are under the coach's supervision, including before, during, and after practices, contests, travel, and team activities.
  3. Develop andย maintainย a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, discipline, teamwork, andย schoolย pride.
  4. Support the educational mission of theย schoolย by encouraging academic success,ย appropriate behavior, responsible citizenship, and regularย schoolย attendance among student-athletes.
  5. Comply withย all applicable board policies, administrative procedures, conference/league requirements, state athletic association rules, and federal/state laws governing student athletics.
  6. Communicate and work cooperatively with administrators, athletic personnel, students, parents/guardians, officials,ย otherย coaches, and the public to support the athletic program.
  7. Coordinate with coaches and athletic programs atย otherย grade levelsย and schools, when applicable, to promote program continuity and student development.
  8. Supervise, account for, and helpย maintainย equipment, uniforms, supplies, and assigned facilities in a safe, responsible, and organized manner.
  9. Provideย appropriate leadershipย and direction to assistant coaches and volunteers assigned to the program, consistent withย schoolย expectations and administrative oversight.
  10. Maintain professional conduct, professional work habits, and positive public representation of theย schoolย and athletic program.
  11. Participate in required meetings, trainings, certifications, and professional development;ย maintainย and improve coaching knowledge, skills, and required credentials.
  12. Performย otherย job-related duties as assigned by the principal, athletic director, orย otherย appropriate administrator.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:ย  A coach for a WVSSAC sport must be certified as a teacher (or substitute) in the State of WV or complete the National Federal Interscholastic Coaches Education Program as endorsed by the WVSSAC and the State Board of Education, and receive a coaching authorization issued by the WV Department of Education.ย  Must also have or be willing to get current CPR/AED certification.

Applicants must be fully credentialed professionals or substitutes or hold a valid WVDE coaching certification before participating in ANY WVSSAC sport coaching duties.ย  Call 304-843-4400 x310 for information on how to start the process or renew your existing certification.ย  Also, visit the MCS BOE website, and then click Links, Employee Resources, and scroll down to find coaching certification and CPR/AED class information.

Coaching duties must not interfere with other contracted duties held by the successful applicant, and the successful applicant must be available for practice and game times and dates as determined by the principal.ย  No names will be taken to the board for approval without valid certification.

  6. Occasionallyย demonstrateย sport-specific techniques or movements and move quickly in response to play, supervision needs, weather, injury, or safety situations.
  7. Lift, carry, push, or pull athletic equipment and suppliesย generally upย to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, withย assistanceย orย appropriate equipmentย when needed.
  8. Maintain attention, judgment, situational awareness, and emotional control during routine and unexpected situations involving students, contests, travel, and athletic events.ย 

WORK ENVIRONMENTย
