Job description

Volunteer, Hudson Gardens

Volunteers play a vital role in the success of Hudson Gardens while providing enjoyable, educational and memorable experiences for all visitors.

There are gardening volunteer opportunities in the Colorado, Rose and Water gardens. Volunteer opportunities are also available providing customer service and assisting staff in the Welcome Center/Gift Shop, and events such as outdoor concerts, holiday events and privately scheduled events. Volunteers provide positive customer service and are generally available to answer any questions or get maintenance help if needed. Volunteer position require an ongoing commitment to scheduled shifts throughout the year or season.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Be able to pass a background screening.
  • Previous experience with gardening, landscaping, plant identification and grounds maintenance is helpful.
  • Has the ability to follow workplace safety procedures and listen and follow directions/instructions from supervisory staff.
  • Be aware of and willing to volunteer in accordance with the policies and goals of Hudson Gardens and South Suburban Park and Recreation District.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate maintenance and proper use of hand tools or other equipment provided.
  • Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to interact tactfully, clearly, concisely and appropriately with the public, Hudson Gardens Staff, District administration, District staff, fellow-volunteers and other agencies or contractors.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, weather events and special work requests.
  • Has the ability to regularly exercise independent judgement.
  • Ability to be self-directed and provide excellent customer service to all participants.

About South Suburban Park and Recreation District

Our mission is to foster healthy living through stewardship of the environment, parks, trails, and open space by providing recreational services and programs.

We serve residents in Bow Mar, Columbine Valley, Centennial west of I-25, Littleton, Lone Tree and Sheridan and unincorporated portions of Douglas, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties. We operate four full-service recreation centers, golf courses, outdoor pools and restaurants, two ice centers and miniature golf courses, a botanical garden event center, a BMX track, a sports dome, batting cages, an entertainment center, a hotel and a nature center. In addition, we maintain nearly 3,800 acres of developed and open space land, including 119 multi-purpose athletic fields, more than 100 parks, nearly 80 miles of trails, 60 playgrounds, 56 tennis courts, and the 880-acre South Platte Park.
