JOB PROFILE SUMMARY:The Lathe Specialist is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of manual and CNC lathes to produce precision components for injection molds and tooling assemblies. This role requires a high level of skill in interpreting technical drawings, maintaining tight tolerances, and ensuring quality standards are met. The Lathe Specialist plays a critical role in supporting mold manufacturing and repair operations.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the job duties listed below.

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes to machine components to exact specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models.
  • Measure and inspect finished parts using precision instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Perform routine maintenance on lathe equipment and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and toolmakers to resolve machining challenges.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Follow all safety protocols and company procedures.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:


Work Experience:

  • 3+ years of related experience
  • Experience in precision machining, especially with manual and CNC lathes in a mold-making or tooling environment.
  • Up to 2 years of formal post-high school specialized trade, technical school, or college.
  • Completion of a machining or tool & die apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Proficiency in G-code programming and CNC lathe operation.
  • Skilled in using precision measurement tools and interpreting GD&T.
  • Familiarity with tooling materials and cutting speeds/feeds.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with multi-axis lathes or live tooling is a plus.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing for extended periods and working in a shop environment.
