Position Title: Java Developer

POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a Java Developer to support the sustainment, enhancement, and modernization of mission-critical applications supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The successful candidate will contribute across both legacy enterprise platforms and modern application architectures, helping to bridge existing systems with future-state modernization initiatives.
The primary focus of this role is enterprise Java application development utilizing legacy technologies while contributing to modernization efforts leveraging Spring Boot, microservices, and API-driven architectures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
โข Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
โข Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
โข Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications utilizing Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
โข Design and implement REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
โข Develop and maintain modern backend services utilizing Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
โข Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
โข Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
โข Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
โข Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
โข Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
QUALIFICATIONS
โข Bachelorโs degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
โข 3โ7 years of software development experience
โข Strong experience with Java development
โข Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
โข Experience developing REST APIs and web services
โข Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
โข Experience using Git-based source control
โข Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
โข Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
โข Experience with WebLogic application server administration or deployment
โข Experience with Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, or other enterprise Java technologies
โข Experience with microservices architectures
โข Experience with Docker and containerized applications
โข Experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
โข Experience supporting federal government or VA programs
โข Experience with Jira and Confluence
WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard Business hours are Monday through Friday. Occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs. Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting.
