Job description

Background: This position is in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. The Hudson Bay OSB Mill is a market-focused quality Oriented Strand Board (OSB) operation. This mill site includes a Log Yard, Green End, Drying, Pressing, Finishing and Shipping depts., Maintenance/Engineering. Annual production is 540mm3/8. The workforce of Approximately 160 employees is represented by the United Steelworkers Union (USW).

Key Functions:

  • The Production Supervisor reports to the Production Manager. 

  • The Production Supervisor will be a coach for the associates in all aspects of work.

  • Production Supervisor provides a daily focus on safety adherence, also direction in housekeeping, environmental, quality, productivity, and cost efforts.

  • Is a safety driven leader and coach practices Active Caring, Hands-on in housekeeping, quality, productivity & costs initiatives.

  • Plan & lead effective pre-shift meetings, training sessions, continuous improvement efforts.

  • Promotes change and growth as the key to sustained success and a way of life in working, establishes trust with associates through support, goal setting, action planning, and follow-up.

  • Establishes performance standards and works with associates to meet behavioral expectations, promotes team member ownership in their areas and equipment - and of the mill (pride).

  • Interfaces with other supervisors to consistently maintain standards - safety, housekeeping, performance, etc.

  • Participating in the selection of new employees; provides input to the HR Manager and Department Manager for employment, termination, and salary review decisions. 

  • Will be a proactive leader in safety, waste reduction, quality, and productivity. 

  • Facilitate team meetings, lead and motivate team members though effective goal setting, feedback and performance evaluations. 

  • Assigns a mentor to new associates to provide training & reliable methods of instruction. 

  • Personally, does final qualification learning checks on tasks and Job Instructions. 

  • Leads development of operating team on troubleshooting activities, minor maintenance, machinery optimization, ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, etc. 

  • Promotes and supports organizational goals, direction, and focus on Continuous Improvement.

  • Demonstrate excellent safety performance and demonstrated ability to use and follow plant systems required. 
  • Experience in an OSB operation in Blending, Forming, Pressing and/or Finishing. 
  • Ability to work in a 7/24 environment. 
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills. 
  • Ability to provide consultation, coaching, facilitation or teaching with associates. 
  • Excellent communication skills to include written, verbal and listening and ability to work as part of a team required. 
  • Knowledge and experience in quality principles. 
  • Working knowledge of entire department preferred. 
  • Skilled in PC use with Microsoft Office. 
  • Ability to plan, organize, execute. 
  • Ability to change and adapt to new situations. 

Desirable: 

  • Proven mechanical skills a plus.

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $89,800 - $130,300 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
