JOB SUMMARY
The Recreation Youth Assistant Coachis responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementationof youth and adult sports programs. This role involves coaching, mentoring, andsupervising participants to promote skill development, teamwork, andsportsmanship in a safe and inclusive environment. This is a volunteer positionideal for individuals passionate about community engagement and developing andaspiring youth to become mindful, productive citizens.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of players.
  • Assists with the planning of and implements the program's instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall development of players.
  • Works with other coaches and designated recreation staff toward a common goal.
  • Establishes performance criteria to evaluate players' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians as necessary regarding performance of their child.
  • Determines program strategy based on the participants' capabilities.
  • Encourages sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic activity at all times.
  • Takes all necessary precautions to protect players and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
  • Maintains and secures all equipment and supplies.
  • Organizes seasonal schedule for upcoming seasons with Lead Coach, and designated recreation sports staff.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury
  • Represents the District in a professional manner at all times.
  • Maintains nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

EXPECTATIONS
• Respect all officiating decisions-Inappropriate behavior towardreferees or officials will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
• Distribute schedules -Ensure that all parentsreceive up-to-date practice and game schedules in a timely manner.
• Punctuality and attendance -Arrive at least 30minutes before each practice or game and maintain an accurate attendance logfor all players.
• Inclusive coaching-Provide equal opportunities for every playerto participate and develop their skills, regardless of ability level.
• Follow the Park's Code of Conduct-Adhere to all behavioral andethical guidelines established by the recreation department.
• Report incidents -Notify facility staff or parkrepresentative of any incidents or concerns immediately following games orpractices.
• Be a positive role model -Represent the team andthe recreation program with professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm at alltimes.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1 year coaching experience
• Knowledge of offensive and defensive positions
• Basic knowledge of rules and regulations for the sport theycoach.
• Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
ELIGIBILITYCRITERIA
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must pass a criminal background check
• Must complete required Coach's training
• Must agree to and follow the Park's Code of Conduct
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Volunteer opportunities atPelican Park are seasonal and may vary throughout the year based on currentprograms, special events, and park needs. The assignments will be matched basedon your interests and the Park's current volunteer needs.
Volunteers will report to thedivision supervisor or designated coordinator overseeing the area where theyare placed. Training and guidance will be provided based on the nature of theassigned duties.
