The essential responsibilities of the Computer Software Specialist 3 will report to the Supervisor. Apply advanced-level business and information technology system practices and/ or project management methodology in analyzing information requirements to determine hardware/ software solutions; develop project plans and implement, develop, or maintain enterprise information systems to meet project deliverables. Apply advanced-level business and information technology system practices and/or project management methodology in the performance of the job. Assess, plan, design, develop, configure, execute, install, maintain, or modify, enterprise systems, web applications, client server applications, mainframe, network and/or personal computer operating systems, relational database management systems, utilities, and related software. Analyze/ monitor and troubleshoot system performance ; recommend modification of existing/ purchased systems or development of new systems to meet information requirements; develop specifications for problem resolution. Monitor, control, and coordinate new information system developments to ensure maximum utilization and efficiency of software capability and inclusion in long-range strategic planning. Facilitate the investigation of requests for information system studies to determine their merit and recommend acceptance, rejection, or an alternative solution. Confer with technical, professional, and managerial personnel to obtain data and determine information requirements; translate user needs into cost effective solutions. Provide technical guidance and assistance concerning software applications and system developments and operations. Keep abreast of changes within the Information Technology area; serve as MLGW's representative while working with vendors on hardware/ software purchases, implementations, and problem solutions; assist in the development and maintenance of MLGW computer standards and procedures. Operate Division's vehicle and computer hardware/ software equipment. Perform other duties as directed.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform the Computer Software Specialist 3 role, you must: -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or Business with a concentration in Information Systems or Math with a concentration in Computer Science or Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 12 hours college accredited Information Technology or Information Systems courses plus four (4) years of Division experience in database, computer hardware/software, mainframe, networking, programming, or system analysis skills depending on departmental need. -Must meet proficiency requirements. -Must have a 3 rating for two (2) consecutive years as a Computer Software Specialist 2 or a 4 rating in last year as a Computer Software Specialist 2.
-(External candidates must have at least six (6) years of equivalent experience and meet proficiency requirements). -Must have at least one (1) year of demonstrated experience as the primary support person for a particular system or application and at least demonstrated knowledge and skills in one (1) or more of the fields listed below. -Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
Position Summary
Information Security is responsible for developing, implementing, supporting, and maintaining information security solutions that protect the utility's critical business systems, operational technology (OT), and customer information. This position works closely with IT infrastructure, networking, application development, and cybersecurity teams to enhance the organization's security posture through automation, systems integration, monitoring, vulnerability management, and incident response.
The ideal candidate possesses strong Linux systems knowledge with working experience supporting Windows environments and security tools. This role requires analytical thinking, technical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to develop scripts and applications that improve operational efficiency and cybersecurity resilience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
