Job description

Wiggam Law is a premier tax controversy firm recognized for our rapid growth and uncompromising results. We are currently seeking a Senior Tax Attorney who is a true "Student of the Law"—someone who thrives on the complexities of Tax Court litigation, offshore compliance, and high-value audits.

This role is designed for the attorney who wants their legacy to be built on technical mastery and client victories. While we don't require you to bring a book of business on day one, we are looking for a professional with a business-minded spirit who is excited to help us continue our trajectory as a national leader in tax controversy.

Why Wiggam Law?

  • The 1,650-Hour Advantage: We believe high-performance shouldn't lead to burnout. Our 1,650 annual billable requirement ensures you can handle complex litigation while still making it home for dinner and family milestones.
  • A "Huge Plus" for Growth: While your primary focus is technical execution, we highly value and financially reward business development. If you enjoy building a personal brand, speaking, or networking, we provide the resources and mentorship to help you thrive.
  • Collaborative Excellence: You will receive direct support and mentorship from the firm’s partners on the most sensitive federal and state tax matters.
Compensation:

$175,000 – $250,000

Responsibilities:
  • Lead Case Strategy: Act as the lead strategist for a diverse portfolio of complex federal and state tax matters, architecting the strategy from initial audit through final resolution.
  • High-Stakes Litigation: Draft and file Georgia Tax Tribunal/Court petitions, Federal Tax Court petitions, Federal Court of Claims litigation, Federal District Court litigation, motions, and trial memos; represent clients in the United States Tax Court, Federal Court of Claims, and Federal District Court proceedings and state revenue hearings and the Georgia Tax Court/Tribunal.
  • Forensic Substantiation: Conduct deep-dive reviews of client financial records and bank statements to build a "bulletproof" evidentiary foundation for legal arguments.
  • Complex Negotiations: Lead high-level conferences and settlement negotiations with IRS Appeals Officers, Revenue Officers, and state tax authorities.
  • Technical Quality Control: Serve as the firm’s technical "anchor" by reviewing major protests, filings, and complex tax resolution strategies to ensure they meet the firm’s standards.
  • Advanced Controversy Matters: Direct the strategy for sensitive and technical legal matters, including any new IRS enforcement campaigns, complex audits and litigation, Offshore asset compliance, Voluntary Disclosures, and complex collections matters
  • Sophisticated Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for high-net-worth individuals and business owners, translating complex IRS procedures into clear, actionable advice.

Qualifications:
  • The Credentials: Active Bar License (Required). Admission in the United States Tax Court, the United States Federal Court of Claims, and the Federal District Court.
  • The Experience: 5-10+ years of dedicated tax controversy experience. You should feel equally comfortable in a high-stakes negotiation with a Revenue Officer as you do drafting a Tax Court petition.
  • The Mindset: You are a "Chess Player" who looks three moves ahead. You are detail-oriented, collaborative, and possess a legitimate passion for tax law.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of audits, appeals, litigation, collection, and penalty abatement procedures.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex tax law into actionable strategy for both clients and junior staff.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio), Adobe, and the MS Office Suite.

Benefits & Culture

  • Growth Opportunity: Clear pathway from Senior Leader to Partner-level responsibility within a rapidly expanding firm.
  • Work-life Balance: A competitive annual billing requirement of 1650 hours allows our team to manage their hours effectively and prioritize personal commitments, such as spending time with family.
  • Performance Rewards: We offer competitive performance-based bonuses and provide significant financial rewards for business development through origination credit.
  • Financial Security: 401(k) with 3% non-elective contribution and profit-sharing.
  • Comprehensive Health: Employer-provided health insurance, with dental and vision options available.
  • Professional Support: Paid parking/MARTA fare and support for Bar dues and CLE requirements.
