Job description

Telecommunications Systems Designer

HUNT-EAS is seeking candidates for a qualified Telecommunications Systems Designer. This team member will plan, design, and specify various types of communication networks and solutions. The successful candidate will work on project planning, designing, scheduling and construction. HUNT-EAS also offers a full range of engineering services to our clients so it will be important for this individual to work well in a team environment. Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of technical plans, specifications, and models. As member of the technology design team this individual will work on a variety of projects in the K-12 schools, municipal, healthcare, multi-family housing, and college and university markets. HUNT-EAS offers a fast-paced environment, with a focus on high-caliber work while balancing employee work-life relationship over the long term.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gain familiarity with the client's expectations, scope, budget and schedule for assigned tasks
  • Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
  • Collaborate design criteria with engineering team members to gather information required to design the telecommunications systems
  • Plan and design backbone distribution, cable pathways, audio-visual, and telecommunications space drawings and schematics for projects using CAD software
  • Conduct field reviews and surveys to verify accuracy of completed design
  • Interpret architect drawings/specifications, blueprints and construction documents
  • Provide on-site assistance during start-ups and construction
  • Lead and provide guidance to a draftsperson or other team member
  • Coordinate work activities with other staff members
  • Create installation documents from information found on vendor equipment drawings and submittals
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of deliverables
Qualifications
  • Degree or technical training in a related field such as telecommunications, electrical engineering, or systems design
  • 2+ years of experience in telecommunications design or related discipline preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards (e.g., BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC)
  • Familiarity with construction documentation and project lifecycle
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a multi-discipline engineering environment
