Job description

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Healthy Living Director, the Special Skills Instructor plans and teaches specialized group exercise classes to participants.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
• Arrives at least 15 minutes prior to beginning of work shift.
• Develops and plans appropriate programs for YMCA participants.
• Collaborates with the Program Director to coordinate and promote the Y's Healthy Living program throughout the community.
• Plans, supervises, and implements programs in accordance with YMCA of South Florida core values, policies, and Risk Management and Safety procedures.
• Demonstrates, models and gears program to the needs of individual or members in the program with concerns for their interests, disabilities, and special talents.
• Ensures that the arrangement, appearance, decor, and environment of the Group Ex room are safe and conducive to exercising.
• Attends YMCA functions such as staff meetings and program events.
• Follows the YMCA of South Florida Risk Management procedures by reporting any incident / accidents to Program Director and / or Human Resources within 24 hours.
• Other duties as needed based on Family Center or Program Site requirements or needs.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities / Position Requirements:
Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or GED.
• Specialized certification - for revenue producing programs.
• Two or more years of experience participating in, or teaching or comparable experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)
Other skills and abilities:
• Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must be organized and detail oriented.
• Excellent communication skills.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift / move set up and store equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
