Established in 2007, the Chicago Stars were a founding member of the former Women's Professional Soccer and later became one of the original eight teams to form the National Women's Soccer League in 2013. They are the longest continuously operating professional women's soccer team in the United States. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Accounting Assistant performs various tasks to assist the Director of Finance & Accounting and Staff Accountant with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and monthly close processes, along with other related duties. Please note that is a part-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Work with employees and vendors to gather and organize vendor forms that are complete and accurate for compliance and audit purposes
  • Set up and maintain vendors in the payables system
  • Assist in the movement of vendor invoices through the payables system while ensuring accuracy and proper approvals
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Manage accounts payable email inbox and respond to vendor and internal inquiries
  • Assist with administrative transactions in the Pcard system
  • Evaluate payable transactions for use and lease tax and appropriately use company guidance to self-assess when necessary
  • Aid in creation of internal audit process of payable transactions to track compliance with company policies
  • Assist with 1099 processes as needed
  • Perform specified tasks within the A/R process, including setting up new customers, maintaining existing customers, preparing invoices, voids, debit/credit transactions, and applying payments
  • Review soccer team per diem files to ensure proper per diem rates are distributed
  • Serve as backup to the Staff Accountant as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration (or currently pursuing), or equivalent work experience
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes of transactions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with accounting software (NetSuite)
  • Previous experience working in an accounting department
  • Public accounting internship or full-time experience

LOCATION/SCHEDULE
  • Approximately 20 hours per week, hybrid schedule. Hours may vary based on business needs.
  • This position is based in the Chicago Stars Front Office located in Downtown Chicago.
