Job Summary:

The Assistant Varsity / Head JV Girls Volleyball Coach will assist with the oversight of the girls' volleyball program at Providence Cristo Rey High School. In conjunction with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will help develop and implement strategies for individual player development, team success, and sportsmanship. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a passion for coaching and mentoring student-athletes.


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership & Development:
    1. Must attend all practices and matches throughout the season.
    2. Assist in the planning, organizing, and conducting of all practices and competitions for the girls' volleyball team.
    3. Help develop and implement training plans and game strategies that support individual player growth and team success.
    4. Analyze opposing teams and collaborate with the Head Coach to develop effective game strategies.
    5. Help foster a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship within the team.
    6. Ensure team and player safety during practices and competitions.
  2. Player Development & Mentorship:
    1. Serve as a positive role model and mentor to athletes, promoting academic excellence, good behavior, and leadership skills.
    2. Evaluate player performance and provide instruction to improve skills, knowledge, and competitiveness.
    3. Prepare players for higher levels of competition, including the varsity level.
  3. Collaboration & Communication:
    1. Coordinate with the Head Coach, Athletic Director, coaching staff, and additional school personnel to support the programs goals.
    2. Maintain open communication with players families about practice schedules, expectations, and team information.
    3. Represent the volleyball program and Providence Cristo Rey High School positively within the school and community.
  4. Administrative Responsibilities:
    1. Support compliance with school, conference, and IHSAA policies and procedures.
    2. Help manage team rosters, attendance, and eligibility records.
    3. Help coordinate and maintain team equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  5. Additional Duties:
    1. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director in support of the athletic program.


Competencies Required:

  • Previous experience playing and/or coaching girls volleyball at the high school level or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of volleyball techniques, strategies, and game rules.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school-age students and build positive relationships with athletes.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, resolve conflicts, and make quick decisions.
  • Must pass a background screen.
  • First aid and CPR certification preferred.


Additional Education/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time during practices and games.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical skills and participate in drills as needed.
  • Ability to set up and maintain volleyball equipment.
