Position Overview:
We are seeking a Network / Software Networking Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on secure IP networking, real-time communication systems, and software-centric network design and integration. You will help define, design, implement, and validate networking aspects of our products and solutions, working closely with software, systems, and hardware teams.
Knowledge of real-time communication system design, secure IP networking, and Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) principles is highly desirable.
What a Network Engineer Does at REDCOM Laboratories:
  • Gather and analyze requirements from internal and external stakeholders (including standards documents) and translate them into clear, actionable engineering specifications for networking and software components.
  • Design, document, and help implement network architectures and interfaces that support secure, reliable real-time communications (voice, video, chat, etc.).
  • Collaborate on system-level design that integrates software, network interfaces, and related components.
  • Contribute to networking aspects of product development, including configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of IP-based and related protocols.
  • Support interoperability, integration, and performance work involving secure networking.
  • Participate in documentation, reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.
  • Work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment on products used in defense, public safety, and commercial settings.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (Master’s a plus but not required).
  • 0–5 years of relevant experience (including internships, co-ops, academic projects, or early-career roles) in software development, networking, or related systems work.
  • Solid foundation in IP networking concepts and protocols.
  • Familiarity with software design principles and the ability to work with or contribute to software-based systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid team environment and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience or coursework involving real-time communication systems, VoIP/SIP, secure networking, or related protocols.
  • Exposure to network troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark), Linux/Unix environments, or scripting.
  • Interest in or knowledge of Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) or open systems approaches.
  • Experience with software development practices (version control, testing, Agile/Scrum, etc.).
  • Understanding of UX considerations in networked or communications products is a plus.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Hybrid work environment (work-at-home and in-office)
  • This position may require occasional extended work hours to meet project/customer goals and minimal travel (under 15%)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The employee must be able to work on a computer workstation for extended periods of time requiring the ability to hear, have visual acuity, and have manual dexterity. This position is an office-based position with limited travel and lifting requirements that would be rare to the role.

  • No direct reports however this position will have broad authority to collaborate with people working on project deadlines and deliverables.

The wage range for this role considers the range of qualifications that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; education and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. Network Engineer Hiring Range: $85,500 - $112,500 annually
