Job description

In this highly visible accounting and regulatory reporting role, you'll gain unique exposure to the financial operations of a registered broker-dealer while working at the intersection of accounting, finance, compliance, and regulatory oversight. You'll play a key role in safeguarding client assets, supporting critical reporting to FINRA and the SEC, partnering with senior business leaders, and contributing to audits and strategic initiatives that help maintain Vanguard's reputation for trust and operational excellence.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career finance or accounting professional who is looking to build deep expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and broker-dealer operations while developing relationships across a broad network of business partners.

Note: Vanguard Marketing Corporation (VMC). VMC is a Vanguard legal entity which is a registered broker-dealer and provides brokerage services as a self-clearing broker-dealer under the name Vanguard Brokerage Services. VMC also provides marketing and distribution services for the Vanguard funds.

Responsibilities:

  • Completes the month end close for the VMC entity. Enters, reviews, and approves journal entries which include revenue and expense accruals and other entries needed.
  • Prepares Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and a Net Capital calculations for monthly FOCUS reporting to FINRA, a key Broker-Dealer regulator. Conducts monthly meetings with the Financial Operations Principal (FINOP) to review preliminary FOCUS filing data.
  • Prepares the weekly Customer Reserve calculation in accordance with SEC rule 15c3-3 and oversees deposits into and withdrawals from the Customer Reserve bank account in order to properly protect customer assets.
  • Creates quarterly financial statements and prepares a quarterly certification package consisting of full financials, footnotes, and executive summaries of the balance sheet and income statement.
  • Completes VMC account reconciliations in accordance with established deadlines. Identifying reconciling items and proposes plan for resolution. Compiling and organizes all required supporting documentation.
  • Identifies and manages risk pertaining to accounting and regulatory reporting functions.
  • Supports external audit team (PwC) during the annual financial statement audit.
  • Provides support during annual regulatory audits with FINRA and the SEC. This position Works closely with Compliance, Legal, and other business partners to respond timely and accurately to all exam requests within tight deadlines.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (in accounting or finance preferred). CPA or MBA preferred or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and independently.
  • Excellent computer skills including accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners and clients.
  • One to two years' general experience in an accounting and financial reporting environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial and operational controls.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
