Job description

Procurement & Materials Coordinator – Metal Machining

Position Overview

We are a precision metal machining company seeking a Procurement & Materials Coordinator to support the purchasing and flow of raw materials and components used in daily production. This role is ideal for someone early in their procurement career who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in learning the materials side of a machining operation.

The position focuses on execution, coordination, and system support, with training provided on materials, vendors, and machining requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with purchasing raw materials and shop components (steel, aluminum, stainless, etc.)
  • Send RFQs to approved vendors and help compare pricing and lead times
  • Place purchase orders based on production needs and guidance from management
  • Track and schedule material deliveries to support production schedules
  • Maintain Kanban, min/max, or reorder systems for raw materials and shop supplies
  • Help ensure material availability to prevent production delays
  • Work with production and planning teams to understand material usage and demand
  • Maintain purchasing records, inventory counts, and basic vendor information
  • Support continuous improvement of ordering processes and material systems
  • Communicate with vendors regarding order status and delivery updates

Qualifications

  • Experience in purchasing, materials, or supply chain (manufacturing preferred, not required)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets and basic purchasing systems
  • Willingness to learn machining materials and shop processes
  • Ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
  • Good communication skills (email, phone)
  • Reliable, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks

Preferred

  • Exposure to manufacturing, machining, or shop environments
  • Familiarity with basic inventory concepts (reorder points, Kanban, min/max)
  • Experience working with vendors or service centers

What We Offer

  • Competitive, entry-level to mid-level compensation based on experience
  • Training on machining materials, vendors, and procurement processes
  • Clear growth path into Buyer, Sourcing Specialist, or Supply Chain roles
  • Stable manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience supporting CNC operations

Why This Role Is a Great Entry Point

This role provides real exposure to:

  • How materials move through a machining shop
  • Vendor interaction and RFQ processes
  • Inventory systems that keep machines running

It's a strong foundation for someone looking to grow a long-term career in manufacturing or supply chain.
