Job description

Waste Services

VLS Waste Services provides customized waste processing solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, including landfill diversion and sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, wastewater treatment, and waste sequestration.

Railcar Services

VLS Railcar Cleaning and Repair Services division provides specialty cleaning services for difficult-to-clean products, including chemicals, hardened materials, and pressurized gases, and comprehensive repair services for certified full-service repairs, tank car qualifications, and maintenance.

Marine Services

VLS Marine Services division offers state-of-the-art barge cleaning, repair, and gas-free facilities for various chemical solvents and downstream petroleum products.

Role Summary

Operators are responsible for receiving deliveries of various materials, performing QA/QC of incoming deliveries, maintaining site safety, site cleanliness, and processing material in a solidification pit. This includes the use of heavy equipment such as loaders/excavators, powered industrial equipment such as forklifts and powered/non-powered tools.

Job Duties

Responsible for the unloading and loading of material in conformance to company rules and regulations.
Offloads and checks in all inbound material using a standardized QA/QC process.
Load, unload, and sample solid and liquid material safely in accordance with Company, federal, state, and local regulations/rules.
Check for inconsistencies with manifested types and quantities with actual containers received in accordance with company rules and regulations.
Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues.
Operate heavy machinery and powered industrial equipment.
Perform daily PM and inspections on operating equipment.
Operate a forklift with attachments.
Perform basic operator maintenance such as greasing/cleaning.
Handle materials that often require the use of PPE: Boots, Gloves, Suits, Eye/Ear Protection, and Respirator.
Perform basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed.
Responsible for keeping work areas, walls, pit drain, and floor in a clean and safe condition.
Shovels, sweeps, and washes the area in which they are assigned periodically throughout the day.
Identify and report safety hazards.
Keeps an inventory of PPE and supplies in the stock room and notifies management when restocking is needed.
Other duties assigned as needed by Management.

Requirements

1-3 years of shipping receiving and warehouse experience.
High School Diploma/GED.
The ability to operate a forklift and other heavy equipment.
Ability to work well with others in a team environment and also independently sometimes.
Lift 51 lbs. without assistance.
Basic math, reading comprehension, speaking, and writing skills.
Manages time effectively.
Ability to work in a dusty environment doing repetitive motions in any weather.
Dependable and reliable.
Must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function test and respirator fit test.
