Overview

The successful Scientist II monitors ongoing experiments, identifies or resolves complex technical project issues, and provides technical leadership within the group. The individual takes a more active role in non-routine process development activities and may act as a technical lead for the analytical component of client programs.

What You'll Do: 

  • Plans, conducts, evaluates, interprets and reports complex laboratory experiments

  • Identification and resolution of technical project issues.

  • Develops and reviews new analytical methods or PD plans.

  • Independently applies scientific and/or cross-functional knowledge to achieve project goals.

  • Ensures completeness and technical quality of work to ensure the integrity of research.

  • Ensures safety procedures and cultural norms are followed.

  • Familiar with new practices and procedures in relevant literatures and is skilled in finding such procedures/ practices.

  • Application of scientific knowledge to the design, conduct, and implementation of studies and projects

  • Ability to provide solutions to problems of high complexity.

  • Creates plans to resolve project-related issues.

  • Implementation of new technologies within the area

  • Contribute strong technical advice to team problem-solving.

  • Makes decisions on technical information generated under guidance of direct supervisor.

  • Leading the decision-making process during project execution 

  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Requirements:  

  • M.S. and 3+ years of experience, or a B.S. and 7+ years of experience and is an entry level position for a PhD degree in an analytical laboratory.

  • Design, execution, and interpretation of complex laboratory experiments with broad priorities set by the supervisor.

  • Application of statistical concepts and performs higher-level analyses involving analytical or process experimental design.

  • Application of advanced scientific knowledge associated with larger and more complex experiments and projects.

  • Interpretation and judgment of the quality of experimental outcomes and data to effectively draw conclusions and make recommendations regarding project execution.

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Ability to complete technical assignments by designing, executing, and interpreting complex experiments.

  • Advanced knowledge of chemistry and/or biochemistry and associated lab techniques (e.g. UPLC, HPLC, CE, icIEF). Experience in protein mass spec or Tecan preferred.

  • Ability to complete technical assignments by designing, executing, and interpreting complex experiments.

  • Defining and implementing strategies, initiatives, and actions to improve processes and procedures to ensure compliance with internal and industry standards

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to influence and collaborate in a team environment.

  • Ability to monitor ongoing experiments and suggest alternatives or solutions.

  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other associated software used in the scientific field.

Physical Demands: 

  • The position requires essential physical abilities, including but not limited to typing, standing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing repetitive motions, and the ability to move around in designated areas. Additionally, this individual may need to exert physical effort such as lifting objects up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity:

  • The individual in this position should have the visual acuity required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal engaging in extensive reading, using measurement devices, and/or assembly or fabrication at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions:

  • The individual in this position works in an indoor environment with controlled temperatures, avoiding extreme heat or cold. Some areas may be prone to loud noises requiring the use of earplugs. This role involves exposure to proteins, caustic agents, reagents, biohazardous products, and possible needle sticks. Additionally, the person in this role may be exposed to pungent smells, irritants, and/or aerosols that could affect the airways and the skin.
