Staff Accountant - Los Angeles

Barnstorm is an Emmy and VES-nominated visual effects studio based in Los Angeles with operations in Vancouver, Montreal, New York City, Atlanta, and London. We provide photo-realistic visual effects for episodic television and select feature film sequences. Who You Are

You are a detail-oriented and organized accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You take pride in accuracy, maintain confidentiality, and are comfortable managing multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, communicate effectively across departments, and are proactive in improving financial processes and maintaining accurate records.


What You'll Do

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and vendor payments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
  • Support financial reporting and provide analysis as required.
  • Perform consolidations and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Work with accrual-based accounting across multiple currencies.
  • Apply knowledge of US and/or Canadian GAAP to accounting processes and financial reporting.
  • Support payroll processing by coordinating with internal teams and external providers as needed. Payroll processing experience is considered an asset.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow tracking.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules for external audits and tax filings.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and organize supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and internal controls.
  • Collaborate with production, operations, HR, and leadership teams on financial matters and reporting requirements.
  • Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.


What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the entertainment, media, VFX, animation, or creative industries.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with US and/or Canadian GAAP.
  • Experience with accrual-based accounting and multiple currencies.
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and Macros.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (G Suite).
  • Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
  • Payroll processing experience is considered an asset.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is considered an asset.
