Job description

Company Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service.

Overview

We're looking for an exceptional editor who can transform complex ideas, breakthrough moments, and human experiences into compelling content that resonates with audiences around the world. This person will play a critical role in shaping how people understand Joby's mission-from quick-turn social content and major company announcements to cinematic brand films, technical storytelling, and long-form documentary content.

You'll join a small but mighty production team that moves fast, collaborates closely, and takes pride in producing world-class work. Success in this role requires more than strong editing skills; it requires curiosity, strong communication, and the ability to partner with subject matter experts across the company to uncover stories worth telling. If you're a storyteller at heart, thrive in fast-paced environments, and love bringing ambitious ideas to life, we'd love to hear from you.Who You Are

  • You're a storyteller first
  • You know how to find the story, even when it isn't obvious in the footage
  • You're naturally curious and enjoy learning about complex subjects and the people behind them
  • You can translate technical concepts into stories that are engaging, clear, and human
  • You move quickly without sacrificing quality
  • You're resourceful, proactive, and comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy
  • You're a self-starter who identifies problems, proposes solutions, and makes things happen
  • You enjoy working as part of a small, highly collaborative team
  • You embrace feedback, iterate quickly, and help those around you succeed
  • You're excited by ambitious challenges and the opportunity to help build something that has never existed before
Responsibilities
  • Edit a wide range of content, from fast-turn social edits and event recaps to cinematic brand films and long-form storytelling projects
  • Shape compelling narratives that connect audiences to Joby's mission, technology, customers, and people
  • Serve as a central force in our content engine, helping transform ideas, footage, and creative concepts into impactful stories
  • Partner closely with our in-house videographer, photographer, motion designer, and communications team to bring stories to life
  • Collaborate with engineers, team leaders, executives, flight test teams, and other stakeholders across the organization to identify stories, translate complex topics, and create content that supports both internal and external audiences
  • Produce content for a variety of purposes, including public-facing campaigns, company announcements, executive communications, recruiting initiatives, presentations, events, and internal storytelling
  • Develop story structures, rough cuts, and final edits that balance creative excellence with speed and efficiency
  • Collaborate on graphics, animations, and other visual storytelling elements that support the narrative
  • Help establish repeatable editing workflows, templates, and best practices that elevate the team's output
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, often across overlapping
Required
  • Bachelor's degree + 5 years of professional editing experience, or advanced degree + 3 years, or equivalent experience. Experience editing content across social media, branded content, documentaries, interviews, and long-form storytelling
  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and familiarity with motion graphics workflows
  • Demonstrated ability to craft compelling narratives from a variety of source material, including interviews, verite footage, events, and archival content
  • Strong sense of pacing, music selection, sound design, and emotional storytelling
  • Ability to take projects from concept through final delivery with a high degree of autonomy
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both creative teams and technical subject matter experts
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment
  • Comfortable stepping behind the camera when needed, whether capturing supplemental footage, supporting productions, or helping bring a story across the finish line
Desired
  • Experience creating content for technology, aerospace, automotive, transportation, or other highly technical industries
  • Experience editing documentary-style content, episodic series, podcasts, or interview-driven storytelling
  • Familiarity with color grading, audio mixing, and motion design workflows
  • Experience helping develop creative processes, templates, and scalable production workflows
  • Understanding of production workflows and on-set collaboration
