Job description

STAR PIPE PRODUCTS


Location: 4018 Westhollow Parkway, Houston, TX 77082

Pay: $18-22/HR (Depending on experience)

2nd Shift: 3 pm - 12 am (Will train from 8 am - 5 pm for the first couple of months)


Summary

The QC Inspector assists the Quality Control department with several functions including following the sampling and inspection procedure, inspecting items for quality, completing inspection reports, communicating non-conformance to the QC Supervisor, sorting materials, and other quality control duties.

Essential Functions

  • Completes quality control reports and tests using calipers, tools, and gauges
  • Sorts and moves quality control materials for testing and storage

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Incoming Containers and QC Inspection
  • Select items for inspection from the daily inspection log
  • Visual and dimensional inspection of products during Incoming or In-process items
  • Read blueprints on all the inspection reports for planned items from the computer
  • Select sampling plan as per the prescribed guidelines for batch quantity Accept or Rejects
  • Collect all the required instruments for inspection from the QC Lab
  • Manually opens crates and pallets containing inspection items using proper instruments at the Receiving Dock
  • Removes fittings from crate/pallet as per sampling plan, if necessary, using the forklift
  • Inspects for visual, dimensional, other physical properties, and assembly as per the inspection procedure
  • Fills out inspection results and test results into ERP Software
  • Reports any non-conformance found during the inspection to the QC supervisor for re-verification and identifies the product by attaching a Red QC tag
  • Attaches a Green tag per procedure to all inspected items which confirms the requirements
  • Carries out any special QC tests per QC supervisor instructions of the material whenever required per procedure
  • Reviews receiving inspection paperwork as it is completed. Check that the report complies with the inspection procedure completely
  • Updates the QC inspection log in the computer for the number of items checked and comments if the item checked is found to conform to standards or not. Report any type of feedback found during the inspection to the QC Supervisor
  • Updates all inspection reports and attaches them with the put-away receiving documents for QC supervisor review and approval
  • Moves rejected material to the QC holds area as per guidelines from QC Supervisor
  • Ensures that nothing is left on the dock pending for QC inspection at the end of the day. In case of problems, reviews them with the QC Supervisor

Local PO’s / RMA’s / Return Shipments Inspection

  • Inspects all Local PO’s, RMA’s and customer returns per standard QC guidelines and procedures
  • Reports any non-conformance in the items to the QC Supervisor for his review and approval
  • Updates the paperwork with the accepted, rejected, or rework comment and provides the paperwork to QC Supervisor for his review and approval
  • Accurately prepares all required pictures and papers as per guidelines given by the Supervisor

General Responsibilities as QC Inspector

  • Follows all safety measures
  • Ensures proper use and maintenance of all equipment and instruments/gages
  • Maintains good housekeeping
  • Ensures all procedures, including ISO, SPP-QAP-1503, and SPP-GAM-1001, are followed
  • Completes special assignments when assigned from time to time
  • Completes in-process QC inspection in Rework department per standard QC procedure
  • Ensures proper storage of rejected material in the QC hold area and that no material is moved to QC hold from elsewhere without proper identification
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

Required:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Good Communication skills
  • 1 year plus quality inspection experience in the metal industry or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Associates degree or Certificate course in Engineering, Quality Control, or related field
  • Familiarity with castings & steel products
  • Strong understanding of inspection gauges & tools and documentation to support quality inspection efforts

Knowledge, Skills, Licenses, Certifications, Etc.:

Required:

  • Requires good reading, writing, and verbal English communication skills
  • Basic Math skills
  • Basic knowledge of QC systems and requirements
  • Maintains a Material Handling Forklift license
  • Able to work well independently

Preferred:

  • Experience in warehouse operation and inspection in the metal industry is a plus
  • Experience working with Quality Control
  • Coordination with another department required
  • Familiar with Calipers, Micrometers, and dimensional gauges
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word

Physical Demands

  • Able to use a variety of hand-held calipers and various QC gauges up to 60”
  • Able to lift, push, and/or pull 50 lb. parts
  • Exposed to warehouse environment
  • Able to stand for long periods
  • Able to kneel or squat as required

Work Environment

  • Warehouse and lab environment.
  • Some outside work will be required.
