Position Overview

The Quality Engineer / Source Inspector supports BWXT Canada’s commitment to a world‑class Quality Assurance program by executing inspections, tests, surveillance, and audits at supplier facilities and remotely. This role ensures products, processes, and documentation meet all applicable Canadian and international standards.

Location: Cambridge, ON, Canada

Your Day‑to‑Day as a Quality Engineer / Source Inspector

Quality Systems & Compliance
• Revise, maintain, and improve procedures and work instructions to ensure regulatory and customer compliance.
• Maintain quality management system elements, including vendor management, document control, and record retention.
• Ensure process adherence through the development of procedures, flowcharts, forms, templates, checklists, and supporting documentation.
• Support quality programs and initiatives across the organization.

Inspections & Surveillance
• Conduct visual, dimensional, and NDE inspections of components, assemblies, forgings, castings, and fabrications per purchase order and specification requirements.
• Perform source inspection and surveillance activities both remotely and at supplier locations.
• Travel to vendor and customer facilities to support audit and surveillance activities.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
• Develop and execute process improvement plans using Six Sigma, Lean, 5S, SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R, and engineering studies.
• Support product and process improvements through detailed failure analysis and nonconformance investigations.
• Facilitate cross‑functional problem‑solving teams.
• Provide training on quality requirements to production and support staff.

Collaboration & Communication
• Communicate key quality requirements with internal stakeholders and external partners, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies (e.g., TSSA).
• Work closely with Shop Personnel, Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Document Control, and Records groups.
• Troubleshoot documentation and technical issues with customers and suppliers.

Job Structure
• Reports to the Quality Programs Manager.
• No direct reports.

Required Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Manufacturing and Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
• Applied knowledge of ASME Section III (Nuclear Facility Components) and ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels).
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and CSA N299 quality system standards.
• Strong understanding of quality assurance principles and methodologies.
• Experience with technical writing, documentation, and quality record management.
• Ability to interface confidently with suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies.
• Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).

• Experience with continuous improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, DOE, Gauge R&R (desired).
• Experience with documentation and process development tools such as procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, templates (desired).

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $80000 and $118000 per year. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
