What You'll Do

The Design Manager leads the day-to-day creative output and team health of Long Hollow's Design team. Working under the Director of Creative and Communication, this role is responsible for translating creative direction into excellent design work across print, motion, and environmental spaces - while developing and empowering a team of Design Specialists to do the same.

This role requires a versatile creative leader who can move fluidly between high creative ownership on some projects and execution of the established vision on others. The Design Manager is both a maker and a manager - equally invested in producing great work and in building a team that does the same.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to the Design Specialist team.
  • Develop team members' skills, creative instincts, and professional growth through consistent feedback and coaching.
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative, and innovative team culture within the Creative Department.
  • Manage project ย assignments, workloads, and deadlines to ensure the team operates efficiently and sustainably.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the team's day-to-day creative questions and decisions.

Design Execution & Creative Leadership

  • Lead and produce design work across print, motion graphics, and environmental/physical spaces.
  • Adapt creative ownership to each project - taking high creative initiative when given latitude, and executing faithfully within the Director's creative vision when direction is set.
  • Review and approve design work produced by the team, ensuring quality, consistency, and brand alignment before delivery.
  • Bring creative problem-solving and fresh thinking to every project, regardless of scope or scale.
  • Manage the full design production process from concept through final delivery.

Brand Stewardship

  • Steward and maintain the Long Hollow brand standards and visual identity guidelines as established by the Creative Director.
  • Ensure all design work produced by the team consistently reflects Long Hollow's brand, values, and aesthetic.
  • Serve as the team's primary resource for brand questions, maintaining clarity and consistency across all deliverables.
  • Flag brand inconsistencies or emerging needs to the Creative Director and help implement any updates to guidelines.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager and Film Manager to ensure visual consistency across all platforms and touchpoints.
  • Partner with ministry teams and internal stakeholders to understand project needs and deliver design solutions that serve them well.
  • Support larger campaigns and initiatives led by the Creative Director, contributing design leadership and team capacity as needed.ย 


Skills Needed to Succeed

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a designer with a strong portfolio spanning print, digital, and/or motion work.
  • Experience leading, managing, or mentoring other creatives.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and/or After Effects).
  • Experience with environmental or physical space design is a plus.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong design instincts with a keen eye for typography, layout, color, and visual storytelling.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high creative standards.
  • Clear communicator who can articulate creative decisions and give constructive feedback.
