Job description

Job Title: Classroom Teacher

Credentials: Standard or Emergency Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with endorsements for the appropriate level/subject area. 

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education or other field from a college/university recognized by the Oklahoma State Board of Education. 

Training or experience required: None required for this position. 

Reports to: Building Principal 

Contract: 182 days 

Salary Schedule: Certified Salary Schedule 

FLSA Classification: Exempt 

Essential Job Duties

  • Design and deliver itinerant visual arts instruction to 4th-grade students at 16 elementary schools, integrating core content areasincluding math, science, social studies, ELA, and readingin alignment with the Oklahoma Visual Arts Standards.
  • Design and deliver visual arts exploration instruction to Pre-K students on a scheduled rotating basis.
  • Collaborate with Core Content Coordinators to develop a catalog of interdisciplinary art units for implementation across all elementary sites, including written curriculum documents as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Fine Arts Coordinator to develop program-level curriculum goals, scope and sequence, and long-range planning for elementary visual arts programs.
  • Schedule and coordinate lessons with individual classes at 16 elementary schools, maintaining accurate scheduling records and communicating proactively with building principals and classroom teachers to facilitate program delivery.
  • Assess and document student learning in alignment with Oklahoma Visual Arts Standards, maintaining records and reporting progress as required.
  • Manage visual arts supplies and materials across all sites, including budgeting, ordering, and inventory management.
  • Maintain a safe and well-managed learning environment in host classrooms while adhering to each school's established procedures and expectations.
  • Serve on the Elementary Visual Arts Advisory Board.
  • Promote student work and build awareness of the art integration program among families and the broader school community.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of the All-City Art Show.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with building principals, classroom teachers, and school staff to support scheduling, program integration, and school-level collaboration.
  • Participate in professional development aligned with visual arts education and curriculum integration best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Teacher Duties

  • Possess broad knowledge of subject matter and remain informed of current developments in instructional practices; participate in and contribute to curriculum development as required.
  • Understand and apply principles of child development related to physical, intellectual, emotional, and social growth.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to facilitate learning and provide opportunities for participation by all students.
  • Translate lesson plans into effective learning experiences that maximize instructional time.
  • Define objectives that support district and site goals while adjusting for individual and group differences.
  • Clearly communicate objectives and directions, involve all learners, monitor understanding, guide practice, establish closure, and demonstrate desired skills.
  • Develop assignments aligned to objectives and differentiate instruction to meet students' varying needs and abilities.
  • Evaluate student academic growth fairly and impartially using standardized assessments and teacher-designed measures; administer district assessments as required.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports related to student progress.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address health, behavioral, and learning concerns.
  • Organize classroom routines to minimize disciplinary issues and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Follow all district policies and procedures and teach adopted curriculum and courses of study.
  • Select and utilize appropriate instructional materials to support teaching and learning.
  • Maintain classrooms, equipment, and supplies in good condition while encouraging students to do the same.
  • Establish rapport with students and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
  • Maintain professional competence through district-provided and self-selected professional development activities.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times throughout the workday.
  • Participate in designated extracurricular school activities.
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct toward the district, school, employees, students, and the public.
  • Demonstrate emotional maturity, initiative, self-reliance, and sound problem-solving skills; respond constructively to feedback.
  • Develop and maintain open communication and cooperative working relationships with administrators, colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means regarding student progress and interpretation of the school program.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in decision-making.
