About the Organization
The Columbus Area Visitors Center (CAVC), operating as Visit Columbus, promotes Columbus and Bartholomew County as a vibrant destination for visitors, meetings, and events. Through strategic marketing, partnerships, and visitor services, the organization drives visitation, economic impact, and community pride by showcasing the area’s renowned architecture, attractions, and experiences.
The Visitors Center serves as the primary welcome point for guests exploring Columbus’ world-class architecture and design heritage.
Position Summary
The Visitor Experience Ambassador is the welcoming face of the Visitors Center, responsible for creating exceptional first impressions for guests. This role delivers outstanding customer service, provides visitor information, and supports daily operations to ensure every interaction reflects Visit Columbus’ brand and hospitality standards.
Ambassadors assist with visitor inquiries, retail operations, and tour coordination while helping guests discover all that Columbus and Bartholomew County have to offer.
Key Responsibilities
Visitor Services
  •  Greet and assist visitors in person, by phone, and digitally with professionalism and enthusiasm. 
  •  Share information about local attractions, architecture, dining, events, and experiences. 
  •  Provide directions, schedules, and recommendations tailored to visitor interests. 
  •  Support conference center guests and direct them to meeting spaces. 
  •  Maintain knowledge of internal systems, schedules, and communication tools. 
  •  Identify group travel or sports tourism opportunities and share leads with staff. 
  •  Coordinate welcome bags and track requests and deliveries. 
  •  Monitor brochure inventory and report supply needs. 
Retail & Gift Shop
  •  Assist guests with purchases and product recommendations. 
  •  Operate the point-of-sale system and track sales accurately. 
  •  Support inventory management and restocking needs. 
  •  Maintain cash levels and assist with opening/closing procedures. 
  •  Keep retail and public spaces clean, organized, and welcoming. 
  •  Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance or supply needs. 
Tour Support
  •  Assist with check-in and coordination for tours and visitor experiences. 
  •  Provide instructions and directions for tour departures. 
  •  Support video orientations and basic technology setup. 
  •  Operate the tour ticketing system (FareHarbor) as needed. 
  •  Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and guides to ensure smooth tour operations. 
Visitor Experience & Engagement
  •  Help share the story of Columbus’ architecture, culture, and community. 
  •  Create a welcoming environment that encourages exploration. 
  •  Promote local events and tourism initiatives. 
  •  Represent Visit Columbus with professionalism and positivity at all times.
