HOURS WORKED: 8:00 - 4:30, Monday-Friday, evenings and weekends as needed
This is a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position for one academic year to teach undergraduate courses on campus within the School of Health and Science. Teaching responsibilities are assigned by the Chair of the Department of Biological and Health Sciences.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Biological and Health Sciences, the Dean of the School of Health and Science, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS:
Student Workers or Teaching Assistants, as applicable
EQUIPMENT/JOB LOCATION:
Works from an office at Crown College. Regular on-campus attendance to complete job duties is required. Equipment used includes, but is not limited to, personal computers and related software, printers, copiers, Science Lab equipment, and tools related to undergraduate teaching and research.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
โข Teach courses in areas including but not limited to Biology, Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Bioinformatics. A normal teaching load is 24 credits each year.
โข Prepare, administer and clean-up required labs and related equipment each week and participate in the overall maintenance of the science labs.
โข Facilitate student development of knowledge, skills, and demeanor required to support the degrees, which include Biology and Exercise Science.
โข Stay abreast of scholarly developments in specific and relevant fields as well as current teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and assessment.
โข Contribute to the field of science and/or the profession of college-level teaching.
โข Support the mission, goals, and objectives of Crown College
โข Engage in general faculty responsibilities that include:
- Participation in department and faculty meetings,
- Care of students,
- Crown College committee assignments
- At least 10 hours of scheduled office hours per week to be available to students.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
โข Demonstrated experience and expertise in teaching Biology courses at the college level.
โข Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.
โข Established ability to work effectively as a team member.
โข Demonstrate excellence in spoken, written, and electronic communication skills.
โข Ability to integrate collegiate teaching and the Christian faith.
โข Experience evaluating students' work and reporting results promptly.

โข Must be a committed Christian who is active in a local church.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to the above minimum qualifications):
โข Earned a PhD in Biochemistry or a related field.
โข 5+ years of full-time teaching experience, especially in Christian higher education
โข 3+ years of full-time teaching K-12 in the field of science
โข Familiarity and/or experience with standards and assessments
โข Experience with advising
