Job Title: Virtualization Engineer (VMware & Hyper‑V)

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Job type: Contract


Experience Required: 4-6 years
 

Job Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled Virtualization Engineer to manage and support enterprise‑level virtualization platforms, including VMware and Microsoft Hyper‑V. The role involves handling critical escalations, ensuring platform stability, driving infrastructure improvements, and mentoring team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Level‑3 escalation points for all virtualization‑related issues.
  • Manage and support VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper‑V environments.
  • Troubleshoot complex system failures, performance issues, and outages.
  • Ensure high availability and reliability of virtual infrastructure.
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, migrations, patching, and maintenance activities.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and prepare incident and problem reports.
  • Work closely with vendors (VMware, Microsoft, hardware OEMs) for issue resolution.
  • Monitor infrastructure health and recommend performance or capacity improvements.
  • Create, maintain, and review documentation such as SOPs and operational guides.
  • Guide and mentor L1/L2 support engineers.
  • Follow ITIL processes, generate required reports.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, VxRail).
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft Hyper‑V and Windows Servers.
  • Experience managing virtual clusters, virtual machines, and shared storage.
  • Knowledge of critical features such as:
    • VMware HA, DRS, vMotion, VCF, NSX
    • Hyper‑V Failover Clustering and Live Migration, Windows clustering.
  • Understanding of storage and networking concepts.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in high‑pressure production environments.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with:
