Virtual Work information

What is virtual work?

Virtual work refers to jobs or tasks performed remotely, typically using computers and internet technology. Virtual workers, also known as remote workers or telecommuters, can complete their responsibilities from any location outside of a traditional office. This arrangement offers flexibility and can increase productivity, but it also requires good communication skills and self-motivation. Virtual work can include a wide variety of roles, such as customer service, programming, writing, or project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a virtual work environment, and why are they important?

To thrive in a virtual work environment, you need strong self-management, time management, and digital communication skills, often supported by experience with remote collaboration. Familiarity with video conferencing tools, project management platforms, and cloud-based document sharing systems is typically required. Proactiveness, adaptability, and clear written communication are standout soft skills for remote professionals. These skills and qualities ensure productivity, effective teamwork, and seamless workflow in a distributed work setting.

What is the difference between Virtual Work vs Data Entry?

AspectVirtual WorkData Entry
Required CredentialsVaries widely; often includes skills in communication, tech proficiency, or specific industry knowledgeTypically requires basic computer skills and attention to detail; sometimes a high school diploma
Work EnvironmentRemote, flexible, often home-basedPrimarily remote or in-office, depending on employer
Employer & Industry UsageUsed across many industries including tech, marketing, customer serviceCommon in administrative, healthcare, and retail sectors
Common Search & Comparison IntentUnderstanding different remote roles, skills needed, job opportunitiesLooking for entry-level, straightforward data tasks, or part-time work

Virtual work encompasses a broad range of remote jobs requiring diverse skills, while data entry is a specific task-focused role often suitable for beginners. Both can be performed remotely, but virtual work offers more variety and skill requirements, whereas data entry is more straightforward and task-specific.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in virtual roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in virtual work roles often face challenges such as communication barriers, feelings of isolation, and difficulties in maintaining work-life balance. To address these, it is important to establish clear communication channels with teammates, schedule regular check-ins, and set firm boundaries for work hours. Utilizing collaboration tools and participating in virtual team-building activities can also help foster a sense of connection and teamwork. Being proactive in seeking feedback and support from managers or colleagues further aids in overcoming the unique hurdles of remote work.

Clinical Cardiologist (Non-Interventional)

MaineHealth Cardiology is seeking a clinical cardiologist (non-interventional) for primarily virtual work within our integrated cardiovascular service line. While this position is primarily virtual, there will be an expectation of some in-person presence during the establishment and early development of virtual care programs to support workflow design, relationship-building, and program launch needs. This role also has an expectation for on-site physical presence during the calendar year; details will be provided in connection with the interview and hiring process. This position is designed as a full-time role, though we are open to considering less than full-time arrangements for exceptional candidates. MaineHealth Cardiology is a fully integrated cardiovascular practice with more than 80 cardiologists practicing in our Southern, Coastal, and Mountain regions, offering opportunities for academic engagement and research for those interested.

Opportunity highlights include:

  • Play a key role in expanding and continuously improving MaineHealth Cardiology's virtual care model, helping to shape long-term strategy and operational excellence.
  • Provide timely and appropriate virtual care in a remote capacity across all virtual care programs including but not limited to remote patient management or monitoring, virtual in basket, and virtual quick care.
  • Participate in periodic in-person activities—such as workflow design sessions, relationship-building, and program launch support—to ensure successful development of virtual care programs.
  • Engage in continuous process improvement, contributing thoughtfully to workflow design, implementation, and optimization
  • Offer constructive feedback to leadership, demonstrate flexibility, and embrace innovation to advance team and organizational goals.
  • Apply strong time management, communication and clinical decision-making skills while working independently within a collaborative virtual care environment.

Compensation package and benefits include:

  • Relocation assistance
  • Full benefits including retirement options with employer contributions
  • 5 days of paid CME time annually
  • Generous annual CME, licensing, and dues reimbursement
  • Paid malpractice insurance
  • Salary model with a group RVU metric

Qualifications:

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board-certified in Cardiology.
  • Current active and unrestricted license issued by the States of Maine and New Hampshire, or eligible for licensure.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as an MD or DO in an ambulatory setting.
  • Strong triaging skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in providing timely, comprehensive health care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficient use of electronic medical record. Epic preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication and proficient writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Is HIPAA compliant
