IT Infrastructure and Security Engineer
Location: Naperville, Illinois (Hybrid)
Role Overview
This position is a hybrid role responsible for implementing and managing core technology infrastructure while ensuring the organization is protected against cyber threats. The IT Infrastructure and Security Engineer will balance IT infrastructure operations and cybersecurity responsibilities, serving as a primary technical resource for server, virtualization, cloud, networking, and backup infrastructure. The role involves managing the organization's security posture in partnership with managed service providers and playing a role in a multi-year shift toward a Microsoft-centric stack.
Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain Windows Server (including 2022/2025) and Linux (SUSE) environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Manage a VMware vSphere/ESXi virtualization platform of approximately 110 servers.
  • Administer Active Directory environments, including an active domain separation project, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Manage and optimize Microsoft Azure IaaS resources, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and Entra ID.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 tenant operations, including Exchange Online and Microsoft Intune.
  • Manage enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions, such as Veeam, including DR testing.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine administration and operational tasks.
  • Administer security tools including SentinelOne EDR and Mimecast email security, and coordinate with the Arctic Wolf MDR provider.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts across the infrastructure.
  • Serve as the internal technical liaison for managed service providers for networking and security operations.
Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and hands-on experience is required.
Experience: 7+ years of relevant work experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or cybersecurity, with demonstrable experience across both domains is required. Experience supporting multi-site environments is preferred. A background in small-to-midsize IT organizations is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Strong experience administering Windows Server and Linux (SUSE or RHEL) operating systems.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware, Active Directory, Azure, and Veeam.
  • Operator-level familiarity with modern security tooling such as EDR, email security, and MDR coordination.
  • Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation, reporting, and systems administration.
  • Working knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST CSF or CIS Controls.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall concepts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating with managed service providers (MSPs) or managed security service providers (MSSPs).
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms such as Freshservice, JIRA, or ServiceNow.
  • Experience with Extreme Networks switching.
  • Exposure to SAP environments or enterprise ERP systems from an infrastructure support perspective.
  • Experience in agricultural, cooperative, or manufacturing industry environments.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, VCP, VMCE, CISSP, SSCP, or CISM are valued.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position based at the Naperville, IL headquarters, with an on-site expectation of three days per week.
