As part of our team, you will work closely with diverse schools across the state and contribute to high-quality, equitable educational experiences for students with disabilities. We offer a collaborative, supportive environment that values professional growth and meaningful impact.
Job Function
The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality instruction, case management, and specialized services for students with disabilities across PK-12 settings. This role ensures that students receive individualized, evidence-based academic, behavioral, and social/emotional supports aligned with their IEPs. The teacher collaborates with school teams, families, and related service providers to deliver compliant, student-centered programming and to maintain accurate, timely documentation.
The Special Education Teacher applies strong instructional expertise, deep knowledge of service-delivery models, and effective progress-monitoring practices to support student growth. This role may also assist with evaluation processes, facilitate IEP meetings, and contribute to MTSS/RTI systems, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive family engagement.
Core Responsibilities
Direct Instruction & Student Support
  • Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals using evidence-based practices.
  • Develop and implement differentiated lessons, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Deliver services across a continuum of settings (push-in, pull-out, co-teaching, small group).
  • Monitor student progress using valid, reliable tools and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Support students' behavioral, social-emotional, and executive-functioning needs.
Case Management & Compliance
  • Serve as the IEP case manager for assigned students.
  • Draft IEPs, progress reports, and required documentation in alignment with state and federal regulations.
  • Track evaluation and IEP timelines and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate and facilitate IEP meetings with clarity, professionalism, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Maintain accurate digital and physical student records for audits and monitoring.
Collaboration & Communication
  • Partner with general education teachers to support inclusive practices and instructional alignment.
  • Collaborate with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to ensure cohesive service delivery.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, services, and instructional plans.
  • Coordinate translation and interpretation services as needed to ensure equitable access.
Documentation & Data Systems
  • Maintain service logs, progress monitoring data, and compliance documentation in district systems.
  • Generate reports that support instructional decision-making and compliance tracking.
  • Assist with evaluation processes by gathering instructional data and supporting assessment logistics.
School & Team Support
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI processes and contribute to problem-solving teams.
  • Support paraprofessionals through modeling, coaching, and clear communication.
  • Assist with lesson planning, differentiation strategies, and service-delivery coordination.
  • Provide additional instructional or case-management support during staffing shortages or high-need periods.
Optional Remote/Tele-Support
  • Conduct virtual meetings with families and staff when appropriate.
  • Prepare documents, schedules, and compliance materials remotely.
  • Manage digital files and communication systems to support school teams.
Qualifications
  • Current Colorado teaching license, TEE, Alt, or with a Special Education endorsement (required).
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful special education experience in PK-12 settings preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in instructional practice, service delivery, progress monitoring, and IEP compliance.
  • Experience providing direct instruction, lesson development, and student evaluation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Experience facilitating IEP meetings and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Experience with culturally responsive communication and family engagement.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • School-based office and classroom environments with frequent computer use.
  • Occasional movement between classrooms, meeting spaces, and school offices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
