Job description

Position Summary

HomePro is seeking an experienced Virtual Electrician to join our growing technical support team. In this on-site role, you'll provide expert troubleshooting, diagnostics, and guidance for residential electrical systems, smart home integrations, and related equipment. You will work closely with field technicians, dispatch, and customer service to resolve issues, support installations, and ensure safe outcomes. This position blends hands-on electrical knowledge with strong communication and customer service skills to support both customers and technicians from our office.

What You'll Do
  • In-Office Troubleshooting: Provide timely, expert troubleshooting and technical support for residential electrical issues, smart home devices, low-voltage systems, and installation inquiries in an office setting.

  • Field Support Coordination: Support field technicians by diagnosing complex issues, validating findings, and recommending repair steps or parts needed; coordinate with dispatch for efficient scheduling of on-site visits.

  • Customer & Technician Guidance: Communicate clearly with homeowners and technicians to explain diagnoses, safety considerations, and step-by-step solutions in plain, non-technical language when needed.

  • Testing & Verification: Perform bench testing, equipment checks, and verification of components and assemblies to determine functionality and confirm resolutions prior to dispatch.

  • Documentation: Create accurate, detailed records of diagnostic steps, recommendations, parts used, and resolutions in the company CRM and knowledge base.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Contribute to and maintain internal troubleshooting guides, standard operating procedures, and training materials to improve team effectiveness.

  • Safety Prioritization: Identify hazardous conditions, provide immediate safety guidance, and escalate to licensed field technicians or emergency services when appropriate; adhere to company safety policies and local codes.

  • Other duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; technical certification, licensed electrician, or equivalent military electrical experience preferred

  • Proven hands-on experience with residential electrical systems, smart home integrations, or related technical support roles

  • Strong verbal communication and active listening skills; able to translate technical details into clear guidance for customers and colleagues

  • Excellent customer service mindset with patience and empathy when assisting homeowners and technicians

  • Ability to troubleshoot systematically, use diagnostic tools, and prioritize safety when evaluating electrical concerns

  • Comfortable using multiple computer systems, CRM tools, and test equipment while documenting findings

  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills

  • Dependable team player who can work effectively in an office environment and collaborate across departments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed electrician (journeyman or higher) or equivalent field experience

  • Experience with home automation platforms, low-voltage systems, networking, or home security equipment

Schedule
  • Full-time, in-office position

  • Monday through Friday, standard business hours; occasional early or late shifts may be required
