For those without experience the next available start date will be November 2nd. Those with experience in sterile processing may be able to start sooner.

About theunit

The Sterile Processing Department is afast -paced work environment. UponhireTeam Members are expected to attend a 90-day orientation. While on orientation techs will attend an SPD 101 class where educators will teach the Sterile Processing Department standard of work and regulations. Techs will also have a preceptor while on orientation.Technicians will assemble case carts according to surgery schedules. This will include sterile instrumentation according to patientprocedure. When completed technicians will transport casecartto the OR and place in designatedarea.Depending on your hire site in Grand Rapids, Sterile Processing Departments cananticipate40-90 surgical cases. Sites may includesmall differencesbut can expect the same job duties with expectations. Team members can also expect to wear surgical attire in the department.

Orientation/Training

New team membersare required tocomplete a Sterile Processing educational training course. The first6 weeksof this 90-day course are mandatory 1st shift 0700-1530 Monday-Friday. Once the course is completed, the team member will transition to their hired shift times for theremainderof orientation.

Sterile Processing professionalsare responsible forcleaning, decontaminating, sterilizing, and distributing medical and surgical instrumentation. They are among the most vital contributors to the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. Work performed in the Sterile Processing department usually follows a processing cycle.Decontam>Inspect>Assembly>Package>Sterilize>Inspect>Store>Inspect >Dispense. After use, items that can be reprocessed are returned to the decontamination area to start the process all over again, it is important to note that at each step in the process, items are inspected to ensure that they are clean, in good repair, assembled, and processed correctly. Sterile Processing Techs are also involved in the record keeping and tracking process across manydifferent functionsof their jobs. They must provide properly processed products whenthey are needed. The patient must be the center of every quality concern.
