Job Description

Job Title: Teacher Salary Schedule: Certified; CHCCS Salary Schedule Reports To: School Principal Salary Grade: Teacher, eligible for local supplement Work Location: School  FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: 10 Month   Position Summary

At CHCCS, a teacher's goal is to provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience needed to make progress toward educational goals established, to create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world. 

Essential Duties
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
    • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media
  • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school program
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required
    • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities
  • Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
    • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates these objectives to pupils.
  • Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation tools
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school program
  • Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures 
Education/Experience Requirements
  • Holds or is eligible to hold a N.C. teaching license
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Prior teaching experience preferred
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
