What is a virtual rheumatologist?

A Virtual Rheumatologist is a licensed medical doctor specializing in diagnosing and treating arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and other musculoskeletal conditions through telemedicine. They conduct remote consultations, review patient history, interpret test results, and develop treatment plans using secure digital platforms. This role allows for flexible patient care, particularly for those in remote or underserved areas. Virtual Rheumatologists collaborate with primary care providers and may prescribe medications or recommend lifestyle modifications. This position requires strong communication skills and expertise in rheumatology to provide high-quality remote care.

To thrive as a Virtual Rheumatologist, you need board certification in rheumatology, strong clinical assessment skills, and up-to-date medical knowledge of autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders. What are some common challenges faced by virtual rheumatologists, and how can they be addressed?

Virtual Rheumatologists often encounter challenges such as limited physical examination capabilities and relying on patient-reported symptoms and imaging for diagnosis. Staying current with virtual care best practices, leveraging secure technology, and maintaining clear communication with patients and interdisciplinary teams help ensure effective care delivery and patient satisfaction in a remote environment.

Job description

About Us

At Sunshine Rheumatology and Arthritis Center (SRAC), we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care in a supportive, collegial environment. We are the largest rheumatology outpatient practice (10 doctors & 2 nurse practitioners) in Florida with five locations across the Tampa Bay area, including our Venice/North Port office. We focus on work-life balance and a collaborative, patient-centered approach to rheumatologic care. With a team of dedicated professionals, we are committed to fostering an environment of growth, learning, and patient-centered care.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Rheumatologist to join our growing team at our Venice/North Port location. You'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of our patients while enjoying a well-structured, balanced lifestyle — and a compensation path that keeps growing well beyond year one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, compassionate care for patients with a wide range of rheumatologic conditions

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and manage ongoing care

  • Maintain an excellent patient experience through effective communication and follow-up

Work-Life Balance

4 1/2 day workweek with no inpatient call, dedicated MA & Virtual live scribe.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Year 1 Salary: $272,000, plus productivity and infusion bonus

  • Sign-On/Relocation Bonus: $15,000

  • Year 2: Usually $310,000 to $350,000

  • Year 3: Usually $350,000–$400,000

  • Partnership Opportunity: Partner-track physicians earn $500,000+

The Growth Difference

Hospital systems often offer a higher starting salary, but that number rarely moves. At SRAC, physician ownership means your compensation is built to grow year over year — join us for the trajectory, not just the starting offer.

Work-Life Balance: Outpatient only, no inpatient call

Comprehensive Benefits Package

  • Health insurance

  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance

  • 401(k) retirement plan

  • Paid time off (PTO) and holidays

Why Venice/North Port, Florida?

Venice and North Port offer a wonderful Gulf Coast lifestyle — uncrowded beaches, a growing and welcoming community, and easy access to Sarasota’s dining, arts, and culture just up the coast. It’s the #1 fastest-growing city in America, parents move for Pine View School (Florida's #1 public high school and the #1 public elementary school in the country) and just up the road from Siesta Key, the #1 beach in the U.S.

Live where everyone vacations — a fast-growing area for a physician who wants both a thriving practice and a genuinely great place to live.
