Nemours Children's Health in JACKSONVILLE, Florida at our home office location, is seeking a Virtual Care ON-SITE RN!
Current opportunities:
  • FULL-TIME, PART-TIME, or CASUAL opportunities
  • DAYSHIFTS (8A-8P), NIGHTSHIFTS (8P-8A), OR ROTATING SHIFTS (8P-8A, 8A-8P)
  • Including every third weekend!

The virtual care nurse supports clinical care for patients, whether in acute care units, critical care units, ED, advanced care at home or remote patient monitoring programs. This role partners with bedside nursing teams to enhance ability to provide professional nursing care. The virtual nurse utilizes observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care; health teaching and counseling of the ill, injured, or infirm; and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness. Using phone, two-way video, remote patient monitoring, and other technologies, the virtual care nurse delivers comprehensive nursing care, supports patient education, and facilitates discharge planning.

Position Responsibilities
  • Clinical Judgment:
    • Utilize policies, procedures, guidelines, and reliable methods to make clinical practice decisions
    • Independently develop, implement, evaluate, and modify clinical practice, matching formal knowledge with critical thinking and nursing skills
    • Collect and interpret complex patient data with clinical events to make clinical decisions to meet individual patient and family needs.
  • Remote Patient Monitoring:
    • Use remote patient monitoring technology to spot clinical trends and respond promptly
    • Monitor vital signs, weight, scoring tools "shock, respiratory, etc." and other health indicators to ensure early detection of potential issues.
  • Two-Way Video Technology:
    • Communicate directly with patients and their families throughout their stay in inpatient and home-based care settings
    • Conduct virtual visits using two-way video technology to support bedside care
    • Provide real-time assessments, guidance, and interventions during virtual visits
  • Clinical Pathways and Standards:
    • Implement and monitor patient care delivery models using clinical pathways, standards, guidelines, policies, and protocols.
    • Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes
  • Health Teaching and Counseling:
    • Provide health teaching and counseling to patients and families, promoting wellness, maintenance of health, and prevention of illness
    • Develop and deliver patient education plans tailored to individual needs
    • Provide discharge education to patients and families
  • Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Teamwork:
    • Assist bedside nurses with admissions, patient education, medication reviews, discharges, care coordination and other tasks as assigned
    • Engage in multidisciplinary collaboration, proactively seek expert consultation, and delegate to other clinicians as appropriate
    • Participate in team meetings and discussions regarding patient care and practice issues
  • Support for Bedside Nursing Team:
    • Assist the bedside nursing team by providing professional nursing support through virtual means.
    • Enhance the capacity of bedside nurses to deliver high-quality care
    • Responsible for providing remote nursing care and assistance to both the patient and the bedside Registered Nurse (RN) through the use of technology
    • Responsibilities include virtually administering patient care by utilizing the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the patient's care plan from admission to discharge
  • Patient and Family Advocacy:
    • Advocate on behalf of patients and families, promoting adherence to ethical standards and patient rights
    • Act as a resource for resolving ethical and clinical concerns
  • Facilitation of Learning:
    • Identify educational needs and facilitate formal and informal learning for patients, families, and healthcare associates
  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and preceptor based on unit needs and individual preferences

Position Requirements
  • ASN required; BSN preferred. Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher nursing degree, must be from an accredited nursing program)
  • Active Florida or multi-state RN license, required
  • National certification in area of clinical specialty (preferred)
  • One year of RN experience required & experience in pediatric specialty area, preferred
  • Course Completions - AHA Healthcare courses required on hire:
    • BLS American Heart Association (AHA)
    • PALS
  • This is an in-person opportunity located in Jacksonville Florida
