Job Details:
Mercer University's Swilley Library is searching for a Research Services Librarian for the Health Sciences on the Atlanta, Georgia campus.
Responsibilities:
The Pharmacy and Health Sciences Research Services Librarian contributes to the mission of the Mercer University Libraries and to the Swilley Graduate and Professional Library (SGPL) by providing subject expertise in Pharmacy, Health Sciences and related sciences, along with innovative and effective Research Services through group instruction, one-on-one consultation, and the utilization of 24/7 Reference instruction models and tools designed to support 21st-century library users. The Pharmacy and Health Sciences Research Services Librarian assists with the Patron Driven Acquisitions model and assists with Circulation functions. The Librarian in this position serves primarily post-traditional and graduate students in Pharmacy and related areas of Health Sciences. The Pharmacy and Health Sciences Librarian contributes to the academic life of the University by participating in annual orientations, functions, and events. Inter-campus travel may be required.
Duties Include:
Cloud-Based/Virtual Services
  • Responsible for the creation, maintenance, and implementation of LibGuides in one's area of specialty or discipline
  • Responsible for the creation and submission of 2-3 or more LibAnswers Knowledgebase question/answers per month.
  • Responsible for the creation and/or updating of "How-to" videos in one's area of specialty or discipline

Research Services and Outreach
  • Partners with other Mercer Library departments in providing excellent customer service in a patron-driven Library environment
  • Provides research service and other assistance, such as virtual and face-to-face consultations
  • Provides library orientations and library instruction in research methods and the use of library resources that support successful research assignments
  • Practices excellent customer service. Notices, approaches and listens to individuals who might have questions
  • Chooses research resources appropriate to the patron's objective and level of expertise, drawing upon a thorough knowledge of academic library reference resources and services
  • Readily collaborates with colleagues or requests supervisor's input
  • Works scheduled evening hours and weekends as needed
  • Attends meetings as required or requested
  • Provides and promotes library's patron-driven collection development model by directing faculty and student requests to the Library's website, or to libraryacquisitions@mercer.edu
  • Communicates library policies accurately to patrons and staff
  • Creates innovative or scholarly outreach activities
  • Completes projects and reports within agreed-upon standards of accuracy and timeliness
  • Submits monthly statistics and activity reports to the Swilley Library Director

Instruction and Professional Development
  • Demonstrates knowledge of key and current terminology, basic subject matter, and research methology in Pharmacy and related Health Sciences disciplines
  • Remains current in the field of pharmacy librarianship by seeking membership in appropriate societies and groups
  • Seeks professional development opportunities and maintains a commitment to reviewing professional literature
  • Maintains knowledge and currency of new resources as they are added to the electronic or print collections
  • Effectively uses and teaches functions of the library's electronic resources
  • Maintains flexibility in dealing with a broad range of library functions, and performs other activities as assigned

Qualifications:
An MLIS degree or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution and prior demonstrated library or directly relevant experience are required. Candidates must have working knowledge of LibGuides, LibAns, LibChat, Alma, Primo, Social Media, Zoom and Microsoft office products.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Commitment to excellent customer service, strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, including initiative, creativity, problem-solving, and knowledge of professional trends in pharmacy and health.
  • Reference experience with all formats and subjects, preferably in an academic library.
  • Strong customer service skills and an understanding of patron-driven library services.
  • Competence in online Reference Tools such as Libguides, LibAnswers, and Libchat.
  • Competence in the utilization of social media for Library Reference services.
