What is a virtual reality developer?

A Virtual Reality Developer is a technology professional who designs, builds, and tests immersive applications and experiences using virtual reality (VR) technology. They use programming languages, 3D modeling tools, and game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine to create interactive environments for gaming, training, education, healthcare, and other industries. Their work involves both creative design and technical development, often collaborating with artists, designers, and other developers to bring virtual worlds to life.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual reality developer?

To thrive as a Virtual Reality Developer, you need strong programming skills (C#, C++, or Java), 3D modeling understanding, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, and knowledge of VR hardware and SDKs, are typically required, along with certifications in VR development or related areas being advantageous. Creativity, problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration are crucial soft skills that set top developers apart. These skills ensure immersive, functional VR experiences and enable developers to innovate and adapt in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

What are some common challenges faced by virtual reality developers when collaborating with designers and other team members?

Virtual Reality Developers often work closely with designers, artists, and UX specialists to bring immersive experiences to life. One common challenge is aligning technical constraints with creative vision, as not all design ideas are feasible within current VR hardware limitations. Effective communication and iterative prototyping are essential to bridge gaps between disciplines and ensure that both performance and user experience goals are met. Additionally, VR projects require rigorous testing across multiple devices, which can add complexity to collaboration and scheduling.

What is the difference between Virtual Reality Developer vs Augmented Reality Developer?

Who We Are:

Quest Global delivers world-class end-to-end engineering solutions by leveraging our deep industry knowledge and digital expertise. By bringing together technologies and industries, alongside the contributions of diverse individuals and their areas of expertise, we are able to solve problems better, faster. This multi-dimensional approach enables us to solve the most critical and large-scale challenges across the aerospace & defense, automotive, energy, hi-tech, healthcare, medical devices, rail and semiconductor industries.

We are looking for humble geniuses, who believe that engineering has the potential to make the impossible possible; innovators, who are not only inspired by technology and innovation, but also perpetually driven to design, develop, and test as a trusted partner for Fortune 500 customers. As a team of remarkably diverse engineers, we recognize that what we are really engineering is a brighter future for us all. If you want to contribute to meaningful work and be part of an organization that truly believes when you win, we all win, and when you fail, we all learn, then we’re eager to hear from you. The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills:

Position Summary

The Engineering Training Manager is responsible for developing and leading the organization's engineering learning strategy to ensure a highly capable, compliant, and future-ready workforce. This role does not serve as the primary technical instructor. Instead, it partners with engineering Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), functional leaders, Human Resources, Quality, Operations, and the Innovation Team to design, govern, and continuously improve technical learning programs across the organization.

The position owns the engineering learning ecosystem—including competency frameworks, onboarding, certification programs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training compliance, digital learning initiatives, and knowledge management. Success is achieved through strategic leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and strong program management. While the role may eventually lead a team, it is expected to succeed initially through influence rather than direct authority.

 What You will Do:

·      Develop and execute the Engineering Learning & Development strategy aligned with organizational goals.

·      Own the enterprise engineering training process, including assignments, completion, certifications, compliance, recordkeeping, reporting, and audit readiness.

·      Establish and maintain engineering competency frameworks, certification programs, onboarding, and professional development programs.

·      Work with Engineering Excellence Office and engineering leaders to understand competency gaps and develop gap closure plans.

·      Coordinate the development of instructor-led, self-paced, and digital learning content created by SMEs.

·      Evaluate emerging learning technologies and recommend scalable solutions that improve technical learning and knowledge retention.

·      Collaborate with the Innovation Team, engineering leaders, and SMEs to identify, develop, and deploy next-generation learning technologies—including Virtual Reality (VR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital twins, and engineering simulations—to modernize technical training and improve workforce capability.

·      Develop dashboards and KPIs that measure learning effectiveness, competency growth, compliance, and organizational readiness.

What You Will Bring:

Required Qualifications

·      Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Education, Business, or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will also be considered.

·      5–10+ years of experience in engineering training, technical program management, organizational development, or a related discipline.

·      Experience managing enterprise training, Learning Management Systems (LMS), certifications, competency programs, and compliance.

·      Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.

·      Excellent written and verbal communication, project management, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

·      Experience within industrial manufacturing, controls, automation, power generation, or other technical engineering environments.

·      Experience partnering with SMEs to translate complex engineering knowledge into structured learning programs.

·      Knowledge of competency management, change management, continuous improvement, and knowledge management principles.

·      Experience with digital learning platforms, immersive learning, VR, AI-assisted learning, digital twins, or engineering simulations.

Compensation decisions are made based on factors including experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors, in accordance with our internal pay structure. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan.

Work Requirements:

We offer flexible work options, including hybrid arrangements, to support the need of the role and align with company policies. This position is located in Greenville, SC and is considered hybrid with 3 days required on-site.

  • You must be able to commute to and from the location with your own transportation arrangements to meet the required working hours.
  • Shop floor environment, which may include but not limited to extensive walking, and ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Pay Range: $80K-$120K / Annum.

Travel requirements: Due to the nature of the work, 20% of travel is required.

Benefits begin on day one:

  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance
  • Employer paid Life Insurance, Short- & Long-Term Disability
