Job Summary:
Supports the daily operations of the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center including space utilization, equipment, technology, educational exercises, evaluation methods, inventory, etc. as it relates to Simulation Education. Responsible to serve as the chief simulator operator and programmer, testing and running scenarios with faculty instructors and ensuring that the facility and equipment are set up for teaching sessions. Oversees the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen based simulators, full body patient simulators and virtual reality simulators. Identify opportunities for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education. Train faculty and other staff in the operation aspects of simulation.
This position is required to conduct business in a professional and cordial manner that upholds the integrity and reputation of Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM). This position maintains a thorough working knowledge of and adheres to the policies, regulations, and procedures of GCSOM.
Job Duties:
  • Serve as simulator operator by programming, testing, and executing the scenarios.
  • Participate in event and scenario planning meetings providing technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facilities to meet curriculum needs.
  • Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, support, troubleshooting, repair and replacement of the simulation equipment.
  • Support the quality of the programs within the Clinical Skills & Simulation Center by assisting with quality assurance and quality improvement under the direction of the associate director of CSSC. This includes observing live and prerecorded sessions.
  • Support the technical and operational needs of the Standardized Patient program including assisting with proctoring, preparation, scheduling, and training sessions.
  • Provide technical support for computer-based multimedia systems and their components, including operation of digital cameras, audio, monitors, and other equipment.
  • Maintain proficiency in existing and emerging technologies.
  • Maintain an active inventory of CSSC equipment.
  • Install software and hardware upgrades and maintain functionality of manikin components as directed by manufacturer support.
  • Provide maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers' recommendations. Monitor
    scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational. Work with manufacturers or vendors to correct equipment deficiencies and maintain system to minimize down time.
  • Monitor new technologies that may support the curriculum.
  • Assist in faculty development concerning the operational aspects of simulation.
  • Participate in technical trainings and conferences to stay current with simulation technology.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
  • Supervision is received from the Associate Director of the Clinical Skills & Simulation Center

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors' degree in health care, education, communications, or a related field required
  • Two years continued use of simulation in healthcare education, research, or administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of education principles; simulation, computer knowledge and computer-based education.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist(CHSOS) or eligible preferred

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Use of Clinical Skills & Simulation Center computer and audio/visual system and Educational Management System
  • Use of Simulator Technologies
  • Use of various office equipment, i.e., copier, fax, shredder, printer, etc.

Bachelor's Degree-Healthcare Related Degree (Required)
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years-Related work experience (Required)
