Virtual PRN RNs must have strong communication skills, clinical experience, and a reliable internet connection to deliver quality care remotely.

What does a Virtual PRN RN do?

As a Virtual PRN RN, your shifts often vary based on patient demand, and you may be scheduled to work during evenings, nights, or weekends to cover peak times or urgent needs. You will spend your time conducting remote patient assessments, triaging cases, providing education, and coordinating care—all through secure telehealth platforms. The PRN (per diem) structure means you have flexibility in selecting shifts that fit your availability, making it an ideal option for nurses seeking a non-traditional work schedule. Outstanding communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These abilities enable Virtual PRN RNs to deliver effective, patient-centered care and respond promptly to acute needs in a remote and often independent work environment.
