Job description

Licensed Practical Nurse

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing and holds a current Arkansas licensure as a licensed practical nurse.

Training and Experience: Individualized orientation period of no less than 2 weeks and generally no greater than 3 months.

Job Knowledge: Demonstrates competency and knowledge of licensed practical nursing skills to create an environment conducive to the healing process of the patient. Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medication, collection of patient data relevant to the plan of care/problem list, collaborating with other healthcare providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

Safety Sensitive: YES In the interest of protecting the health and safety of all patients, associates, and guests, Unity Health has classified some positions as "safety sensitive." A "safety sensitive" position is any job position in which impaired performance could result in harm to the health and/or safety of self or others. Any associate that is actively engaged in the use of medical marijuana, even if in possession of a valid medical marijuana card, will be excluded from employment in a "safety sensitive" position.

Under the direct supervision and delegation of the RN, the LPN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of gathering patient data for assessment, identification of nursing problems, implementation and evaluation. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Serves as a resource nurse when oriented and so directed. Supports the organization's mission, vision and values. Applies knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity, along with their spiritual and emotional needs into the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Physical Requirements: Maintains good physical and emotional well being. Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting and moving patients, pushing of carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment; and lifting or pushing of up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., check chest tube drainage, check urinary output, etc. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required. Trips to various departments will be required. The position does have some heavy exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents. Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns goggles.
