Job Description
The Stepping Stones Group is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a contracted, school-based placement in Shabbona, IL for the 2026-2027 school year! This is a full-time Building Nurse role supporting a local K-12 district with nursing services.
Working with The Stepping Stones Group means consistent pay, clinical backing from experienced nurses, and support from a team that understands school-based nursing - not just staffing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Active RN license valid in Illinois
  • Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program
  • Current BLS CPR/AED certification
  • Knowledge of nurse delegation practices and state scope-of-practice regulations
  • Ability to work independently and exercise clinical judgment
  • Experience working with a pediatric population
  • Diabetic monitoring, Asthmatic, Diabetics, Seizure monitoring, Medication administration
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Provide first aid and manage everyday illnesses (headaches, stomachaches, injuries)
  • Monitor students with chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, mental health conditions) and implement routine and PRN medications and care per orders
  • Verify medical orders, document medication administration, and safely administer routine and PRN medications
  • Act as the lead responder to medical emergencies on campus
  • Train staff on emergency protocols and equipment use
  • Develop and update IHPs (Individualized Healthcare Plans), IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), and 504 Plans related to medical conditions; participate in meetings as needed
  • Collaborate with parents and school staff regarding students with medical needs
  • Conduct or assist with health screenings (vision, hearing, growth/BMI, blood pressure)
  • Delegate and supervise nursing tasks in accordance with state regulations
