Job description

Regional Account Manager (RAM)

Optum is a global organization that delivers care, aided by technology to help millions of people live healthier lives. The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health optimization on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

Optum Specialty Pharmacy is one of the nation's largest specialty pharmacies, supporting patients with complex, chronic, and rare conditions, including autoimmune and inflammatory conditions, through high-touch clinical care and coordinated access to therapy.

As a Regional Account Manager (RAM), you will work directly with rheumatology, dermatology, and gastroenterology provider offices throughout the territory to help patients gain access to specialty medications. Your customers include physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, referral coordinators, office managers, and prior authorization teams. You will serve as a trusted resource on specialty pharmacy services, patient support programs, access solutions, and prescription referral workflows while growing referral volume to Optum Specialty Pharmacy.

This is a field-based sales and account-management role with full ownership of a book of business and the resources of a Fortune 5 enterprise behind you. Successful RAMs are trusted partners to provider offices, highly organized account managers, solid territory strategists, and relentless advocates for patients navigating the specialty medication journey. They are curious, detail-oriented, proactive, and known for following through.

The right person does not just deliver individual results. They share what works, support teammates, and help raise the level of the entire team. We are looking for someone who genuinely wants this job and is motivated by both the business opportunity and the impact on patient access.

If you are located in or near Seattle, WA, you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges. The territory includes Washington and Northern Oregon. This is a commission-eligible position and requires regular field travel throughout the territory and occasional overnights in Oregon.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a territory business plan that grows specialty prescription referral volume and achieves revenue and growth goals
  • Own and grow a defined book of business through disciplined account management, territory planning, relationship development, and follow-through
  • Build trusted relationships across rheumatology, dermatology, and gastroenterology provider offices, including physicians, advanced practice providers, medical assistants, referral coordinators, office managers, and prior authorization teams
  • Understand each office's referral workflow, uncover barriers to therapy access, and connect provider teams with specialty pharmacy, patient-support, and access solutions
  • Present the value of Optum Specialty Pharmacy and partner with internal intake, pharmacy, clinical, and patient-access teams to support provider and patient needs from referral through onboarding
  • Use Salesforce, territory data, dashboards, and business tools to prioritize opportunities, maintain accurate account information, track commitments, and grow the book of business
  • Build productive relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturer field representatives and collaborate with sales leadership on priority accounts and therapies
  • Demonstrate persistence, accountability, sound judgment, and the highest ethical standards while complying with UnitedHealth Group, HIPAA, and applicable government policies and regulations

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in specialty pharmacy, pharmaceutical, medical device, healthcare, and/or business to-business sales
  • Experience managing a territory and prioritizing competing opportunities
  • Demonstrated account-management experience owning, growing, and retaining a portfolio of accounts
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform and Microsoft 365
  • Demonstrated solid attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales and revenue goals
  • Proven effective verbal and written communication skills, with a proven in-person selling presence
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel throughout the assigned territory
  • Currently reside in or near the Seattle metropolitan area

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience selling biologics or supporting autoimmune and inflammatory disease states
  • Experience working with rheumatology, dermatology, or gastroenterology practices
  • Proven experience gaining access to and building relationships with healthcare providers and office staff
  • Specialty pharmacy, buy-and-bill, or provider-administered therapy experience
  • Formal sales training, such as Challenger or an equivalent program

*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy
