Job Description
The UW Medical Center-Montlake Pharmacy Department has an outstanding opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician - Infusion Authorization (Pharmacy Technician 2).
WORK SCHEDULE
• Full-Time/40 hours per week
• Rotating/Variable Shift
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
• Perform non-professional/technical tasks related to the management of prior authorization for patients served by UWMC infusion and Clinic areas
• Act as a liaison between the clinic teams and the pharmacy staff to ensure effective communication regarding infusion prior authorization issues
• All activities shall be performed under the general supervision of a pharmacist
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review and screen new patients at intake to determine if patient has adequate insurance coverage. Refer appropriate patients to financial counseling for coverage or charity application.
• Function as infusion prior authorization and access resource for UWMC ambulatory clinics and Pharmacy
• Contact Department of Health, caseworkers, and patients with regard to missing documents for insurance plans.
• Document results of benefits investigation in the electronic medical record, follow up on submitted prior authorization requests, and notify patients of approvals as appropriate.
• Provide formulary assistance for clinic administered or infusion medications to UWMC clinics through evaluating necessity of prior authorization and identification of formulary alternatives.
• Evaluate infusion authorizations reaching expiration for need of reauthorization.
• Identify patients who may qualify for patient medication assistance programs or copay assistance and contact patients to provide information related to these resources.
• Complete standard documentation of results of benefits investigation, prior authorization status updates, and patient contact in electronic medical record.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Six (6) months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician 1 or equivalent education/experience
LEGAL REQUIREMENT
State of Washington Pharmacy Technician certification
