Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Nurse Practitioner in the Surgery Welcome Center, you will join a team dedicated to truly optimizing healthcare for the communities we serve in Durango and the surrounding region. This position will provide exceptional preoperative care while contributing to the delivery of the highest quality and most cost-effective healthcare within our integrated delivery system. You will support organizational goals through clinical excellence, provider collaboration, exceptional patient experience, and seamless surgical care coordination. Through your work, you will help advance a sustainable, growing, and distinctive organization dedicated to improving the health of individuals and communities throughout Southwest Colorado.

Every day you will perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations, complete medical histories and physical examinations, assess patients for surgical readiness, order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, and optimize chronic medical conditions before surgery. You will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, primary care providers, specialists, nursing teams, and care coordinators to ensure patients are medically prepared for their procedures. As a key member of the Surgery Welcome Center, you will provide patient education, coordinate perioperative care plans, reduce surgical delays and cancellations, and help create a seamless, patient-centered surgical experience from initial evaluation through the day of surgery.

To be successful in this role, you will be a skilled,board-certified, andcompassionateNurse Practitioner with experience in perioperative, surgical, primary care, or hospital-based medicine.

  • You will possess strong communication abilities, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, surgeons, anesthesiologists, referring providers, and multidisciplinary care teams. You will also demonstrate a deep commitment to patient-centered care, quality outcomes, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
  • Masters Degree in Nursing as Nurse Practitioner, from a nationally accredited postgraduate certificate program required. Must be a graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • Graduate from an Accredited School Of Nursing required
  • Registered Nurse Practitioner Licensure for; and listed on the state Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Registry required. Board certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, in applicable population foci and/or sub-specialty.
  • RN License required
  • BLS from the American Heart Association may be required depending on practice setting
  • ACLS from the American Heart Association may be required depending on practice setting
  • Have Prescriptive Authority (RXN) or have Provisional Prescriptive Authority (RXN-P), if applicable for role with associated articulated plan.
