Job description

Per Diem Nurse Practitioner (NP)Southern California Surgery Center is seeking a Per Diem Practitioner (NP) to join our team in Downtown Los Angeles. This role is ideal for a motivated, professional, and patient-focused provider with experience in cosmetic surgery aftercare, wound care, aesthetic medicine, and patient education.
Position Schedule

  • Per Diem: 1–2 days per week
  • Schedule may vary based on patient volume and provider availability
Key Responsibilities

  • Perform medical evaluations and clearances for pre-operative patients and patients receiving aesthetic injectable treatments, as appropriate within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
  • Conduct comprehensive post-operative assessments and provide medical management for patients recovering from elective cosmetic procedures.
  • Perform suture removals and drain removals.
  • Assist with wound care, dressing changes, and monitoring healing progress.
  • Perform minor procedures, including wound closure and suturing when clinically appropriate and within the NP scope of practice.
  • Diagnose and manage minor post-operative concerns and provide appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and diagnostic testing as permitted under California Nurse Practitioner regulations.
  • Provide professional medical advice, patient education, and post-operative care instructions.
  • Identify signs of post-operative complications and promptly communicate any concerns directly to the surgeon who performed the procedure.
  • Document patient visits, assessments, treatments, prescriptions, and instructions accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintain a professional, compassionate, and supportive patient experience.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, registered nurses, CNAs, medical assistants, front office staff, and recovery personnel to support efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license required.
  • Current Furnishing Number and DEA registration required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
  • Prior experience in urgent care, primary care, emergency medicine, surgical aftercare, plastic surgery, or a similar clinical setting required.
  • Experience with sutures, suture removal, drain removal, and wound care required.
  • Comfortable evaluating post-operative patients, identifying potential complications, and implementing appropriate treatment plans.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, documentation, and patient education skills.
  • Professional, dependable, detail-oriented, and highly organized.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the surgical team.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to support overall clinic operations.
Preferred Experience

  • Cosmetic surgery or plastic surgery post-operative care.
  • Aesthetic medicine and injectable treatment experience.
  • Experience performing patient evaluations and medical clearances.
  • Experience recognizing and managing common post-operative concerns, including infection, delayed wound healing, seroma, hematoma, wound separation, and abnormal drainage.
  • Experience prescribing medications and managing post-operative treatment plans.
