Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) โ€“ Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Location: Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (Norfolk, VA)

Department Overview: The Telemetry Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital provides high-quality, continuous cardiac monitoring and specialized nursing care for patients requiring intermediate care. Nurses in this unit work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and virtual nursing teams to manage acute medical-surgical and cardiac conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Rhythm Monitoring: Interpret telemetry strips, recognize life-threatening arrhythmias, and intervene rapidly.
  • Patient Assessment: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the nursing care for assigned patients.
  • Medication Administration: Safely administer prescribed medications and monitor for adverse reactions.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including virtual nursing and support staff, to ensure seamless patient admissions, discharges, and education.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant electronic medical records.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program (Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's in Nursing).
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of current acute care hospital RN experience, with a strong preference for direct cardiac or telemetry experience.
  • Licensure: Active, unencumbered Virginia RN license or Multistate Compact License.
  • Certifications:

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required (or must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
