Job description

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Sand Table team at Anduril develops our revolutionary platform for visualizing future defense scenarios. We transform massive amounts of data into an intuitive, interactive 3D command center, serving as the visual interface for mission simulations, a key business development tool, and a powerful demonstration of our advanced capabilities to government and military leaders. We take ambitious ideas from concept to completion, building the core with high-performance C++ and enabling rapid feature expansion through modern scripting and plugin frameworks. The Sand Table team manages the complex logistics for delivering flawless augmented reality demonstrations in headset to critical stakeholders. As a cross-functional group of builders, strategists, and operators, we combine the creative energy of a top game studio with the rigorous discipline of national security to shape how the future of defense is visualized and understood.
ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Sand Table XR Tools Engineer, you will bridge the gap between our core 3D simulation software and its real-world execution. You will build the distribution pipelines and deployment tools that put Sand Table in the hands of customers, while developing the calibration and operations tools that ensure our high-stakes virtual reality demonstrations run flawlessly every time.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Empower Operations: Architect and build robust tooling and diagnostics that empower our technical operations team to deploy, configure, and monitor live, high-stakes XR demonstrations with 100% reliability.
  • Build the Launcher: Design and develop our custom launcher application, streamlining how we package, version, and securely distribute builds of our core engine and Sand Table applications to end customers.
  • Simplify XR Calibration: Develop and optimize spatial alignment tools, reducing the setup time required to calibrate and align XR headsets with real-world physical environments.
  • Ensure Demo Reliability: Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex XR hardware and software integration issues (tracking, runtime performance, and device connectivity) to keep critical demonstrations running smoothly.
  • Write Performance-Critical Code: Write clean, high-performance, and maintainable C++ code for core engine systems, alignment logic, and desktop tools.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner closely with engine developers, technical operations, and product designers to translate complex operational challenges into simple, robust software solutions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on tools development, systems engineering, or real-time 3D applications (XR/Game Engines)
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and experience working in performance-critical codebases
  • Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose complex hardware-software interaction issues under pressure
  • A proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, especially technical operators and field deployment teams
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and extensible code with an eye for creating robust developer and operator tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on ambiguous, open-ended technical tasks
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Direct experience with XR development, spatial tracking, and XR hardware/software SDKs (e.g., OpenXR, Meta Quest Link, SteamVR)
  • Experience with TypeScript (or JavaScript) for scripting, desktop applications (e.g., Electron), or UI tooling
  • Experience building application launchers, auto-updaters, or software distribution systems
  • Familiarity with local networking, deployment automation, and configuration management
  • Familiarity with 3D math and real-time rendering concepts
