Personnel Responsibilities:
Collaborating with the Administration in implementing the mission of the school. This is accomplished by participating in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the school's goals and objectives. The teacher is a member of the school staff and is a professional resource in designated educational specialties. She/he participates in regional diocesan in-service days as approved and as appropriate.
Serving on a Professional Learning Committee as well as other school committees as requested throughout the school year to strengthen the mission of Saint Joseph Catholic School.
Collaborating with other faculty on cross curricular lesson plans.
Working with the Director of Enrollment and Admissions in the retention and recruitment of students and families.
Operational Responsibilities:
Checks emails regularly and responds to emails in a timely manner
Observes and promotes safe work practices and procedures;
Assuring the planning and implementation of instructional programs and activities that further the Catholic philosophy and goals of the school. The teacher ensures that the classroom atmosphere fosters knowledge of the Catholic faith, development of Christian leadership, and integrates Gospel values into daily classroom activities.
Assuring the selection and organization of curriculum and instructional materials. The teacher adapts methods and materials to accommodate learner differences and plans for both long term and short instructional goals.
Assuring the development of a process for learning. This is accomplished by presenting a clear description of the learning task and its content. The teacher instructs students, monitors student understanding, and re-teaches when necessary. The teacher gives assignments that are appropriate, reasonable, and academically sound. The teacher establishes and maintains student involvement in the learning task.
Assuring the evaluation of each student's progress. This is accomplished through the interpretation of test data and the monitoring of classroom performance. The teacher utilizes this information to improve the quality of instruction. The teacher maintains accurate and current individual records of the student's academic progress and shares this information with both the student and his/her parents.
Assuring the creation and maintenance of a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. The teacher establishes and maintains appropriate student behavior and develops strategies to resolve conflict effectively. In addition, keeping the classroom attractive, neat, updated and ensuring that displays have a learning base.
Assuring effective oral and written communication with the school administrator, fellow faculty members, parents and students. The teacher provides frequent and effective feedback concerning attainment of learning goals to students, parents, and Principal.
Maintaining a current level of knowledge and skills required to effectively serve as a teacher. Incumbent accomplishes this by keeping abreast of current issues, trends, and concerns through attendance of seminars or classes, in-service training, workshops and/or through membership in local, state, or national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
Keeping required records; including lesson plans, grade books, and attendance.
Attending school events showcases a commitment to our school community. Faculty members are expected to attend a minimum of the 8th grade graduation liturgy in June, our Open House during Catholic Schools Week, and at least three other school/community events each school year. Examples of school/community events are our annual HSA meetings/Spirit Nights, etc.
Taking morning/afternoon and cafeteria/recess duty as scheduled.
Performance Evaluation:
Faculty members will be formally observed by the Principal twice each year. There will be an end of year evaluation. A specific form will be used and the teacher and Principal will discuss this evaluation. It will be signed and a copy given to the teacher and one retained in the file.
Work Hours:
All full time teachers shall be in school by 7:20 a.m. and shall not leave before 3:20 p.m. unless the Principal is consulted. In addition, teachers will need to stay until 4:30pm one day per week for faculty in-service or meetings. Additional meetings outside of weekly meetings may also arise.
